Question Barton short throw installed..

Yesterday I installed my new shifter, the quality of the product is great and i love how short the throws are. I do have a pretty bad noise coming from it though, even around 1500 RPM's i can hear a slight noise. I tried teflon tape on the thread of the shift nob and it didn't make a differnce.. Just looking for some tips because i don't think i can keep it on if i can't fix the vibrations. I'll upload a video when i get a chance of WoT

Thanks for any assistance!

That's the first time I've ever herd this from a Barton. Mine sounds and works great. I'm thinking maybe check the centering springs if you reused them

The centering springs were not even reused, could that be the problem?

It might be. I reused mine. The springs do put pressure on the shifter and that might prevent it from vibrating/making noise. Does it vibrate when you wrap your hand around the rod. If it doesn't then reusing the springs will help. I think.

There is a slight vibration but it's not nearly as bad as the sound coming from the shifter

Is it a rattling sound?

Then its vibrations that are causing the noise. Try reinstalling the centering springs.

Most do NOT re-use the centering springs. I didn't put mine back in, and no vibration. This is the first time I've heard of significant vibration with the Barton.

Remember, a short throw shifter will amplify transmission noise, but it shouldn't be annoying.

I would check that the bolts underneath (that hold the bearing in place) are tight. If the bearing didn't seat completely when you installed it (from under the car), you may have those two bolts tight until the bearing seats, which will leave those bolts loose. Worth a check anyway.
