Where will I be able to lap my ZL1?

From what I understand you can't just drive up to a racetrack and start racing. What race tracks are open to the public and where? What are the rules, and what are the costs? Since I'm getting a ZL1 I want to use it for what it's made for. Everyone talks about ZL1 capability on the track, but how do we get it on this track? Keep in mind I don't want to race just drive. I live in Las Vegas BTW.

Search for any local track and find out if they have "track" days!

We have Roebling Roads raceway here in the Savannah, Ga area that is used by MotorWeek television on PBS as their winter test track. You can join the SCCA club and use it on open track days or sign up for sponsored driving courses that are held from time to time, check your local area for track info. Seat Time and Hooked on Driving are just a few courses offered here at Roebling Roads.

You may be able to call Las Vegas Motor Speedway and see if there are any track days open to the public.

Spring Mountain is in Pahrump. They have both Corvette and Camaro classes. Sometimes they would let students take their own cars out on the last day (dont know if they still do). If you have never had a class, it is very advisable for this very high power car. They also have track days. Give them a call.

Charlotte Motor Speedway in NC is open the week after the NASCAR season is over and if you purchase 50.00 in souveniers you can take whatever vehicle you have 2 or 3 laps around the track as fast as you can......there could be other times but that's the one I am aware of .....I plan on taking my ZL1 there this year...

Ok so basically its whenever they have specific days for public track days. Are there any tracks out there that require payment for usage that may be more private just so we don't share the track with everyone and their mothers? It's starting to seem like it would be much easier to build one myself and have all camaro 5 members come!

Haha wish I could

They are not really "public" track days. They are usually HPDE events - High Performance Drivers Education. Do a search here for HPDE and you will find lots of info. Small groups or tracks put on these events so that they are regulated.

Not sure whats available in Vegas area, I'd check in with some of the Sin City camaro club, http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12486 they can help you out.

Tracks that have public track days doesn't mean it's a free for all, there are rules to folllow most require helmets, and get someone who is familiar with the track to do a ride along and give you some instructions. we have an awesome road coarse here in Albuquerque, it's $50 for 4 hrs of track time

Bear in mind though it's not without it's risks
