Painted Rally Stripes - Quoted $2500.00 - Anyone else get better quotes?

So the guys who did this job:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19933

Are asking $2500.00 for it.

Is that even close to normal? Anyone else get quotes yet?

Seems high, rule of thumb was 500 per panel for repair and paint at upper end shops.

We have a HOOD-TRUNKLID-SPOILER.

I'd say 1000-1500 would be about right.

He's wanting to sand down to the metal and paint?

All he needs to do is rough up the clear coat so the new paint will stick and clear over that. he doesn't need to sand down so far just to paint stripes.

It would be overkill to go down to sheetmetal.

When mine arrives I will be helping my body shop guy prep for paint. I agree with the other posts, you only have to rough up the area through the clear coat not down to bare metal. Lay the black or any other color down and then clear over everything. My cost will be under $500.00 for everything including top quality paint and clear. I realize that not everyone has a friend who owns his own body shop, so it may cost some guys more. I would find a good local shop that is more down to earth on their pricing. Don't let anyone sell you any lines about the cost of the materials. $200-$300 max should cover it if they aren't gouging you. It is not a huge area to cover so it does not require a lot of paint.

Well the reason that was given in the other thread that Embalmer linked to said that if you paint the front fascia for the bumble bee look it would require the removal and reclearing of the whole front fascia which adds to the overall cost. Also with it being made of plastic, the more coats you put on it, the more brittle the paint becomes increasing the chance that the paint will crack and peal a few years down the road.
