Oil filter change out?

So, our DIC says you can go til about 10% then we change our oil. That is roughly around 8,000 miles ish. In the past we or I changed my oil at 2,500 miles. So if we can go 8000 miles on an oil change, what about changing out the filter halfway?

Has anyone done this or thought of this? I run K & N oil filters in mine and change my oil at 6,000 miles. IDC what GM or the DIC says, it is cheaper to buy oil than replacing parts or an engine IMO.

All of my vehicles use synthetic oil and good quality filters. I change the oil and filter, 3,000 miles later I change the filter and top off the oil, 3,000 later I change everything again. My Saturn SL2 has 185,000, my Chevy 1500 P/U with a 4.8L has 253,000. Only 700 miles on 2012 2LT. Amsoil/Mobil1 or Royal Purple are my choices on my oils. Wix or Hastings filters are my preference. YES!!! an oil change/filter is cheaper than a major repair.

He has a V6, the correct Mobil filter is M1C-254.

OP, I would NEVER go that far on an oil change especially with the LLT engine and time timing changes issues.

If I were you I'd go full synthetic and change every 5K miles.

I had mine replaced in December and dealer did not cover me because my oil change intervals were to far apart, I was going by the dic every 6500 to 7k with synthetic.

Dealer told me I should change the oil every 4000 to 4500 and regular conventional oil was fine

Not sure why he would tell you this when the 2011 V6's come from the factory with synthetic blend in them.

The K&N and Mobil 1 oil filter are made by Champion labs. Either filter can go the duration of the OLM with ease.

I believe in its capabilities from personal use with oil analysis reports backing up my OCI's. Besides, I know more than most cut and paste Amsoil dealers which are at least 95% of them.
