Trading up

Is it really worth it to trade up? In the last few months ive seen v6 owners trade up to the SS. So I began to wonder weather the SS is that much better to a v6 to justify a trade.

Maybe not better, just different. You have to decide what YOU want out of your car, and if a V8 is worth more to you...

If you want the looks with great mileage and don't care about the speed/power then stick with the V6.

If you want all of the above with the speed and power get the SS. (yes I think the SS gets great mileage for what it is)

It's all personal preferences. You can make a V6 look just as good if not better then an ss. You can make the V6's fast too but I say just upgrade to a SS if you want 400-426HP.

they are two different beasts and feel different. I'm quite happy with my v6 and considering I would have to pay 8k+ more to get an SS, and then worry about spending more on gas and insurance... I'll be staying with my v6 for quite some time haha.

but if you're talking strictly performance, well, the SS is by far the better choice.

Yeah I love my 2lt/RS and dont see myself moving up untill I finish paying her off.

Were I was really getting at was at people who have had there v6s for a short amount of time and go trade up rite away. Does the SS really justify this.

I understand the SS is a whole diffrent beast but the v6 isnt that bad to where i would trade it in so fast.

I know some people have money to blow on such things but the average joe might not want to get under a car loan.

since mine is mainly a weekend car, gas isn't as big an issue. And for $6k I can get a S/C installed and go over 400hp.., not to mention the sales tax/registration costs all over again.

This seems like an unfair characterization of the V6. If I didn’t care about speed and power I would buy a totally different car. The difference isn’t really fast vs. slow. It’s fast vs. faster.

I didn't say that. ^^^

And don't get me wrong. I'm not hating of V6's.

I'm just sayin that there two different cars IMO.

OP If your on the fence on trading or not. Why don't you go to a dealership and test drive the V8 and see if it's worth trading or not.

Yes, you have seen some V6 owners "trade up". Its a popular thread for those who actually do it. I wouldn't read too much into it, though, like its some sort of mass exodus...What do most of them buy? A "used" SS!
(Somebody traded that in, right?)

Don't think you have to follow the crowd on trading "up", (I don't think there's really enough to call it a crowd). My $.02

I would not say its better. It is more power and a different feel. It's also more mod friendly than a v6 but mainly just from a performance stand point. I traded my v6 in for those reasons. I also went from a 1lt to a 2ss so the change was bigger than just the engine.
