Why did they change ss and v6 front fasica...prototype was awesome
it has such a better stance and is more symmetrical with the smaller lower front fascia...i know i complain about this every few months but somebody ask gm if i can buy any of the old front fascias to put on my convertible when i get it ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() edit (now that i posted pictures to compare) i think i'm just seeing things...the prototype lower front fascia is about the same size as the production v6 front lower fascia so i think i'll be happy just switching the v6 bumper on my future ss convertible and it will reproduce a look that i prefer there are slight differences from the concept convertible i posted but probably nothing to go crazy over

not really even the new v6 one is different...i'm probably going to have to find somebody to make a custom one somehow if its even possible...but i've seen like custom corvettes so i'm sure it is possible...but like fat chicks i gotta pay

I think all that is different are the grills...the actual shape of the front looks the same to me. I think you may be thinking that car is different because it has a lower suspension than the production version.

Hey, buddy, I doubt that the convertible is gonna happen. With GM nearing bankruptcy, the Vert won't even be considered until GM is over this hurdle. So, if anyone out there is waiting for the Convertible, I would go ahead and buy the coupe while you still can.

Want the answer? I'll give it to you. Really want it??
The concept car was wider than the production model. Also, the front of the hood had more of a tilt to the ground than the production making for a narrower grille. That tilt, though may only have been an inch or so, was enough to make the difference. So basically what you're seeing on the concept is a wider, narrower grille. Further to that, the lower grille is a little wider on the production model. (better airflow I imagine) I too considered getting the RS nose clip and popping it on my SS, however, no top nose vent. You know that narrow fake slit resembling KITT's infrared scanner? Yeah, without that.. something just seems missing. So, I've decided to get the SS2, leave all alone, keep it original, and love it anyway! And believe me I've stared at the comparisons for ever trying to figure it all out! J |

Also it's hard to tell but the lower grill on the SS is much bigger than on the V6 so you wouldn't want to switch the fascias. There's not enough air for the V8 engine and you will end up over-heating. But yeah we tried to make the base fascia absolutely identical to the showcar as much as possible within all the constraints of regulations, molding, lighting, airflow etc etc etc so you probably wouldn't be able to get it closer. Cars like that don't just happen accidently; the designers were OBSESSED with getting everything perfect and in this case they were the same designers that did the showcar and were 100% committed to reproducing it exactly with no changes. Any differences are absolutely necessary.
