Semi synthetic or Synthetic oil?

The service man in my dealer shop says he should use semi synthetic oil for my v6 2lt oil change.
But from my knowledge, most people use synthetic oil?
He said he'll do the job for 79.99

Is he suggesting semi synthetic oil to rip me off? or is he right?

The V6's come with a synthetic blend (he not lying), I quickly upgraded to full synthetic. Mobil 1 FTW!

the 10 & 11 SS required Mobil 1, the V6 doesn't. As for '12, I think for the SS they now spec a semi-synthetic, not sure about V6. I put synthetic in everything, even my riding mower. Best place to find for sure is right in your owner's manual.

I just put Synthetic in my 1LT. I don't put a lot of mileage on a car so I basically go about a year between oil changes, and Synthetic can handle that better.

Honestly, IMO....(with the V6 only cause I had one) you can run conventional oil as long as you change it when its time to be changed. I didn't see the need to spend the extra money on it with the V6...now the SS gets Mobil 1 synthetic.

My car gets Mobil 1 Synthetic. Now, you might hear that the poor, weak, slow V6 is unworthy of it... but as my dad says, you'll never regret going first class, and everyone knows Mobil 1 is the best. I plan on having my car for the rest of my life so I don't mind paying extra to keep her at her best for as long as possible.

I don't think that is is unworthy of it, I just think using Synthetic in the 3.6 is like putting 93 in the 3.6

Everyone has their own opinion. With the engine issues some of the 3.6's have been running into, I'll pay an extra $50 four times a year to make sure my engine is getting the best of everything.

I'm not knocking anyone for their choice of oil.

But thankfully if you were to choose to use conventional oil your warranty couldn't be voided since the manual doesn't call for synthetic in the V6.

***UPDATE***

The brand of oil I had put in (Synthetic) for my first Oil Change is: AC Delco Dexos 5W-30.

It's the same oil that they filled it with from the factory when it was built.

But it does call for Dexos 1, I'm not sure conventional oil is Dexos 1. Does it?

FYI - That’s the synthetic blend, not full synthetic.
