Directions for GM Wind Restrictor

Anyone have the instructions for folding the GM wind restrictor? I must have tossed mine and it is a PITA to fold. I know there's a trick to it but I can't remember how to do it. Thanks.

I found it. It's one of those cryptic things with only pictures and no words other than the cleaning instructions. I'm sitting here looking at it and can't figure out what they want you to do. Perhaps it would mean more if I had the windscreen here in my office to look at.

If you want to PM your email address to me I'll try to copy in into an email and send it to you.

Thanks. I played with it awhile and finally figured it out. It's not exactly real evident. I hope I can remember the next time.

The damn thing is kinda flimsy seems to me like. Pretty costly too.

It is. I leave mine attached all the time so that I don't risk breaking it. I had to take it off for the shop to replace the top and I couldn't figure out how it folded. It barely fits in the trunk if you don't fold it up.

They do seem flimsy, but I had a very similar wind screen in my last car for over a year and it held up fine, just like this one has so far. I believe it was made by the same place, due to similarities in all the parts. The top is down most of the time here and the screen is up and down a lot, since my wife wants it up to stop her hair from blowing in her face, and I leave it down unless it is cold out. I do leave it in the car almost all the time and have only taken it out in my garage so I didn't fold it.

Don't forget to take it out and clean the seats under it. The seats in my last car were light color and it never occurred to me to take the screen out to clean under it since the car was kept in the the garage and never outside other than when I was driving it. After nearly a year I took it out to put something in the back seat and the seats were an odd dark gray rather than cream color like the front ones. It did not wipe off easily and I traded it while I was still trying to find an effective cleaner, so I guess the Chevrolet dealer got to clean them.

Also my tonneau cover had never blown off before until I installed the wind restrictor and it blew off the other day.

The whole tonneau thing is disgusting. My last 2 cars had automatic covers that opened and closed over the cloth top. I sure wish this one did, since I'm lazy and never put the tonneau on.

Just as a point of clarification for anyone that's reading this thread later. The discussion here is about the GM aftermarket wind screen, not the Wind Restrictor, which is a separate product and a registered trademark.

Yes, the "wind restrictor" is the very attractive etched glass device that attaches behind the rear seat. I just looked at a short video of it in another thread. It is beautiful at night. The wind screen is effective, but by no means decorative. I'd be curious to hear from someone who had had each to compare their effectiveness.

Yes, thanks for clarifying that I am talking about the aftermarket GM wind screen.

I'd be very curious to compare also. If anyone is around the San Francisco area and uses the GM wind screen, lemme know. My bet is that the GM screen makes a much bigger difference since it's right behind you.

That's what I'm thinking, too. If it weren't for the effectiveness issue, I'd buy the glass wind restrictor because I really like the looks, especially at night. Am I right in thinking it is glass, or is it plexiglass?

It's some kind of plexiglass, lexan, or whatever polycarbonate is in style these days. Not glass for sure.
