Does Rake Stance Affect Handling

Thinking about getting BMR 1"/1.4" drop springs. I like the raked look, but don't know how it might affect my handling. I plan on doing some autocross and tracks days soon, but wonder if it would hurt cornering ability. Anyone with before and after experience on the track with a raked suspension?

I read in some Pedders literature that the camaro handles best with the rear 13mm lower than the front.

I have the BMR 1" drop springs all round with stock 2012 SS suspension, with the rear equal or slightly lower it handles really, with the rear higher it handles worse.

Changing the overall balance of the car definitely affects the handling. Is there a reason you are considering a rake stance?

There are a couple different handling issues at play here. Not only will the rake change your corner balance of the car, but the change in ride heights will change the roll center heights as well.

Ultimately we would suggest an even drop for best handling. Our 1.25" drop is a great balance of increased performance, looks, as well as keeping your factory shocks happy.

I guess I am a little old school and like the raked look. But I am not willing to give up cornering performance in exchange for looks.

I am probably going to get either a PFADT stage 4 kit or perhaps a Pedders Pace car package to to kill it on the road course. But started thinking BMR split drop springs would give a great look.

This is the same instruction Pete @ Pedders provided for my setup. The car turns very well on Road Courses and for AutoX.

With the rear higher than the front, you can lose a lot of rear traction if your weight shifts to the front while turning. It could get squiggly real fast if you try to apply any throttle at that point or upset the balance of the car.

I can see it looking good, from a purely visual standpoint, if you had some serious rubber back there. I believe that's where the old school rake comes from. With a stock car and a rake, I think it just looks broken.

Please do not stink bug her

Please feel free to give us a call with any questions.
No one on the west coast has setup more Zeta cars than we have.

We are located in California.
And we keep a stock of Pedders and Pfadt on the shelf.

Thanks

It is all relative. Hands down in our testing and track time the data tell us a more level stance performs better. It doesn't get any better than Paul Tracy saying "Leave the alone. It is good. Its perfect." I'll get more posted for you tomorrow.
