Clunking with new Pedders XA installation

I just had a set of XA coilovers installed and got an alignment done today. On the way to the alignment shop when driving at low speeds over bumps it sounds like something is loose in the front end. The sound is similar to what it sounds like when your front sway bar is loose. However that's not the case. It was fine before the installation. I'm guessing my installer missed or didn't install something right. At high speeds I don't seem to hear the noise and hard cornering it seems fine. I jacked up the car tonight looking for something obvious like loose end-links, but nothing.

Any thoughts? I'm taking it back to the installer to have him go over the front end again.

Did u do this? suspension parts need to be tightened up when the car is underload..if its not then its not settling right n can make weird noises..to me it sounds like the sway bar and end links.

No I didn't install the parts. I had sub-frame bushing, toe & trailing arm kit, front spherical bushing and the coilovers done all at once. I installed the sways last Fall and never once made any noise because I installed it properly. So I am tending to agree with you on the sway bar after driving it to work today. I need to put it up on ramps and reset it. Thanks for the idea.

Yes a light clunking sound. It sounds just the same as when I installed my front sway and I had to leave the old one loose and drive over to a shop to use a lift because I couldn't get the engine up high enough to clear removing the old bar. I left the endlinks off and the rubber mounts loose. Now that was much louder, but the sound is similar.

And your right about the front spherical bushings. I believe the instructions stated it would take about 100 miles for them to settle in. With the drive in today and yesterday I've put on almost that and it's not changed. We did wait over 12 hours for the Loctite to dry as per the instructions.

The easiest noise check for sway bar and endlink noises is to disconnect. One link at the sway bar. Secure it so it cannot foul on the test drive. If you have spherical links tape all the joints. Take a short test drive. If the noise is gone it is the endlinks.

The other most common noise is found in the strut nuts. With the car on the ground, remove the strut retaining nut and plate. Use a 24mm deep well socket and ratchet to tighten the jam nut. Do the same with the retain nut. Test drive.

If you still have a noise post it here

Around the joint so it can't rattle.

Normally I use chassis ears. They are essentially mrophones you place in the area of the noise. The chassis ears save hours of time. We can't do that over the net so we'll use the most likely sources and process by elimination.

I've had a similar problem but after blasting a pot hole, my end link actually came a hair loose i thought it was the inner tie rod i tested and tested it till i just loosened and retightened the end link and noise gone

Aren't you glad you have Race Ramps!?! LOL!!! These things are the bomb. You can get under your car safely and still have the suspension under a load.
