Sure go to the DIY section and find how to do it ,very easy to apply just buy a piece of vinyl of your favorite color and a cutting blade and you're good to go.

The cheapest ebay vinyl ones are not easy as the cheapest places use materials designed for flat applications...
We have a diy on camaro5 here for wrapping the bow ties in our carbon fiber wrap. A lot easier to use something designed for wraps. Customers impression, who had the 4 dollar ebay ones first... Last edited by HeadlightArmor; 05-15-2012 at 06:27 PM. |

You can just plasti-dip them...
plasti-dip is only about $5.99 a can.

second plasti-dip, I used it on the bowties, ss emblems, and side camaro emblems. I also used plasti-dip glossifier to get the gloss black look. Its really easy to do and you can peel it off and return to stock when you get tried of it. I liked it so much I did my wheels and I get people all the time asking who painted the wheels

I want to black out just the gold part of the bowtie and keep the chrome. I tried the black vinyl overlay and it was a so so job...tough to keep the air bubble out. If I wanted to try the plasti-dip, would i just mask off around the bowtie, spray, wait a bit, use razor to trim around the gold part, and then peel off the part over the chrome?

Whenever you apply vinyl, you can use the wet application method which would allow you to get all the bubble out.. then use a heat gun or blow dryer to finish the drying process. A few drops of dish soap for a middle size spray bottle should do it. Plastidip would work too. Just tape off the chrome parts and spray. Remove the tape before it dries as plastidip will stick to the tape. Or let it dry and with a exwcto knife or blade go around the edges of the inside part. This will cut the plastidip from the tape and you will not ruin the edges.

Thanks wuiqUen
I may redo my vinyl and try the wet way since I have some more vinyl leftover. The dry way was a bit involved but prob cause of my first time and fat fingers! But the plasti dip may sound like the way to go.
How long should I wait for the plasti dip to dry before I use the razor blade to trim the gold part out? Thanks in advance. |

I got mine from big worm and I highly reccommend them. The back one is easy but the front one is a little more of a pain. Big worm has some youtube vids that you should watch and after that you have to get a feel for it using a heat gun or hairdryer.

Just mask off the chrome part of the bowtie and mask off EVERYTHING around the bow tie. Plastidip can extend far , so be safe and mask extensively. It's an easy process; just clean the bowtie with rubbing alcohol, spray the plastidip thoroughly, and apply 4-5 coats of it.

I goggled it and found one from sears for $8, but I'm sure if you look harder, you can find one for cheaper.
