Emissions alert from onstar

Ok need some help. I had my longtubes and highflows installed last december and no problems, no codes. Last month and this month when I received my onstar diagnostic email an emissions alert comes up. Just wanting to know if this is normal or do I have to go back to my installer to have him check it.

I got one too. I have a blower and CAI on mine. I ignored it too. The one thing I did notice over the past 2 months is that my AFM is not working. Don't know if that's what triggered it but no CEL and I"M DEFINITELY NOT GONNA FIX IT!

I wonder if that information is available to your service manager? Could be used for good or ill.

I just find it weird. I think its a tuning issue maybe car is running too rich or too lean IDK.

I was just thinking the same thing today driving into work. Can Onstar use its diagnostic services against you for warranty work? What about track use..etc..

Probably. People may call me a paranoid nutcase, but that's why mine is coming out.

If Onstar is sending you emissions notices, it means you have a pending code. Like if your catalist efficency is determined low durring one drive cycle it will store.a code but not turn on your light untill it is determinef low again within a certain number of drive cycles. Onstar can see thease pending codes when they run their monthly diagnostic. And yes they keep records that the dealer can access.

Don't take it out. Just unplug it's two antennas. The unit is behind the glove box. This way everything functions normally except it can't establish a connection to communicate. It just thinks you are in a tunnel or out of satellite range. I did this a week after I got the car. That was over a year ago and no codes or problems. If anyone needs help doing this I will be glad to help. Just PM me.

Does your hands free through bluetooth to the cell phone still work? I assume that the BT antenna is internal to the box anyways as it's such a short range...and the cell phone obviously provides the connection to the world at that point.

Mine does not work because I unplugged both the antennas not knowing at the time one was Bluetooth. The coax cable is onstar and picture below is the Bluetooth antenna that plugs into the box. XM radio and the Universal Remote System work. The compass does not work and just displays 2 minus signs. Here is a DIY post on another forum that has some interesting info. I seems one guy with a 2012 unplugged his antenna and Onstar still worked. I would think if I plugged the Bluetooth antenna back in it would work since the box is still powered. It is fairly easy to access the box so just try it and see.

I'm the guy who unhooked the antenna and it still worked. When I first unhooked it I tried calling Onstar and it didn't connect, the light in the mirror was red instead of green, and the compass said CAL. I assumed it was disabled. Then a month later I got the monthly report email and it showed the correct mileage. I went out to the car, pushed the Onstar button and it rang 4 or 5 times then connected. I was shocked, so I tried it again and it worked again. I pulled the glove box out and the antenna connector was no where near the plug. I actually wondered if Onstar had found a way to connect without the antenna, perhaps to prevent a thief from disabling it by breaking the shark fin.

Maybe there is an internal backup antenna in case the regular one gets damaged in a crash. Did you ever get it completely off? Makes me wonder if mine is still functional. I looked this morning and I also have the fuse pulled. I really don't have any way of testing it. I also told Onstar to disable it the first time they called me. Might try disconnecting the backup battery and see if I get any DTCs.
