Need Tips/Help
So first off, forgive me if I'm in the wrong section. I'm a newbie here and I just recently purchased a Rally Yellow with black stripes 2012 2SS/RS camaro (4days ago to be exactl) and went with the LS3 manual transmission. Now I hope I don't get poked fun at but I haven't exactly had a lot of expirience in the past driving stick. My biggest problem is getting into 1st smoothly, after that if the 1-4 shift skip doesn't kick in I can generally shift well. What tips can you give me to help me get into first more efficiently? Especially on an uphill start, the less I burn the clutch while trying to learn the better. It worrys me when I smell a little bit of my clutch when trying to get into first on a hill. Thanks in advance and once again I apologize if I'm in the wrong section.

If your burning on a hill that means your not letting the clutch our fast enough and pressing the gas too much. Need to learn to balance them out bud. It's all just practice. YouTube is pretty awesome. Check it out. Seeing it done is a lot easier than reading. You can watch and read whatever you want but you need to hear and feel the engine and what it's doing to get it right. Good luck man. It's all just practice. Welcome and great color choice. (idk about teaching yourself on a $38k sports car but hey).

Oh and don't let a Mustang or Challenger owner see you screwing up on a hill. They will vid it and post it on their forums. Major moment if that happens.

I do see the point he made with the guitar reference, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to finally own one of these beasts . Don't worry though, I live in a small town. Not very many mustangs and no challengers around here so I won't be of embarassment |

Hills suck esp if there steep..just gotta balance the two pedals quick..hut i know.at one point if i felt i wasnt going to.be able. To. Do it quick enough..i would pull the e-brake up and hit the clutch ans gas slowly til it caught..once it catches i let go of the ebrake amd the car wouldnt roll back

I have owned my Camaro for about 2 weeks and I THINK I am starting to get the hang of it. I am coming to find that I may have been babying it a bit when trying to take off from first gear. I am starting to recognized the RPM's I need to be at for a smooth shift in all gears. I am naturally starting to double gas to match the RPMs of the gear I am going to for a smooth transition. I assume this will go away as I get used to the gas pedal travel. Whether double gasing is good or not I don't know. I have changed my first gear starts already in the last 2 weeks. I went from barely any gas and letting out the clutch to tapping the gas pedal to get around 1000+/- RPM, letting the clutch out to grab and then slowly adding more gas until fully engaged. Doesn't take more than 1 or 2 seconds. It is kind of hard to explain in text. Hopefully others will chime in as first gear sometimes seems to be a grouch. |

I usually just bring the xlutch to a little bit more then half way down and bring the gas to.half way and.it catches right there..sometimes i lightly press the gas and it will catch all with a smooth ride..
