undercoating
Is anyone getting undercoating? My dealer said while driving through the back of the dealership he noticed that you could hear stones hiting the wheelwells. In fact, he said that the noise was pretty noticeable from the inside and, of course, wants to sell me undercoating. Now I don't like interior noise,so please help with some input if this is a worthwhile cost.

No idea if it harms the vehicle in any way, but I remember watching a show on how vehicles are built. I'm not sure of the make, but they said it prevents the underside from rusting, and should be done every X amount of years. I would imagine that there are a number of types of undercoatings, so I have no idea which 1 they are talking about. For example, 1 type HELPED against salt from eating at the metal, 1 type HELPED against water from staying on the vehicle & soaking into it..

Sure go ahead and undercoat the vehicle if you want. Its good protection against rust and helps against noise but also remember the added wait you will get from it. Granted it will probably only be a couple lbs and most. However, I dont know about you but my car won't be seeing any gravel roads or any winters so ill pass on the undercoating.

Undercoating is not really needed on vehicles today due to the quality of sheet metal, however there are type of sound proofing materials thare may be worthwhile. I won't do it due to the added weight.

Undercoating - like any coating - depends on the quality of the product and the quality of the application. Bad undercoating poorly applied does more harm than good by trpping moisture and dirt or creating pockets for it sit and cause problems.
I haven't seen the wheel well's inside yet but I would examine the underneath of the car, determine where it might help, and do it myself. On the fourth gens, undercoat is on the rocker panel and wheel rear wheel wells only. |

In the back of the dealership, as in the parking lot? How fast could he have been going to kick up rocks? Sounds like he's trying to find a little extra profit!

Never EVER get undercoating. Its just something for dealers to sell, but doesn't really benefit you.

It is on all the reviews and critics lists for just another useless thing the dealer tries to sell to make extra profit.
