Ordering a Camaro

Hey guys --

This is my first post, although I have been browsing the site for a while now. I do think it's time for me to make the plunge and start hunting for a Camaro. Now with all the stories of dealers gouging people above MSRP, is my best bet to order one? If I do order it, do I get it at sticker price, or can the dealer still raise it a bit? Your help is appreciated -- I apologize for the newbie questions...

One more thing -- if anyone knows of any Camaros around the DFW metroplex at a reasonable price I would appreciate it. I am aiming for a Silver 2LT.

up at the top of this forum there are a bunch of "stickies" a couple of them are MSRP or BELOW dealers drag through that list, find one in your general area, or however far you're willing to travel. give them a call and ask about their order allocations (production guide number) could be 1 camaro could be 25 camaros- that's between GM and the dealers- and hopefully they'll be truthful with you. find one that has open allocations and place your order. before you do, come to some sort of agreement that you want MSRP max-

just as there is a below MSRP thread, there is also a "price gouging dealer" thread- familiarize yourself with who NOT to call

order, and then wait....

and wait...

Thank you for the responses.

Is my best bet to try and order one and wait it out, or just keep hunting around for dealers who have Camaros on sale?

That depends on what you want and how picky you are about it. If you absolutely must have a specific trim in a specific color with specific options (which is the case for a lot of us here), order it. If you hunt around for what's on lots now, I think you'll mostly find 1LT's in red, yellow or silver with some unknown set of options.

Just got off the phone with a few dealers and they don't have any allocations. If I manage to find one with an allocation, do you guys think I will get it before mid August? I would like to have it before I head back to school.

Maybe. I ordered a month ago (before the big debut) and I should get mine in early July. If you found a dealer with open allocations, and there weren't a lot of them ahead of you, and luck is on your side, you might get it before school.

So I still haven't ordered one, but tomorrow will most likely be the day. I went to Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine and they said that August was impossible as they have 150+ orders. I called Bankston Chevy and when I asked how long it would be before I got it, they said 6-8 weeks. Are they just saying that so I order from them? They did say that they had allocations, so I'm not sure what to believe.

Find it hard to believe that the first place had a 150 allocations...

If the second place has allocations, and there aren't many people ahead of you you may get it soon'ish'.

Keep tripping around state. Look for small dealerships that may have a few open slots. I was given estimates ranging from 4 weeks to 6 months. All depending on how much over MSRP I was willing to pay. Im sure some of those dealers we ready to give me someone elses car if I paid 10k over.

6-8 weeks? I'm expecting mine 10-12 from the date I ordered it, and I consider that quick. They may be promising more than they can deliver.

Well I ordered. SIM 2LT/RS Auto from Bankston in Dallas. Was promised MSRP and the sales guy offered a free tint when the car comes in. He also showed me the order list and we were moved up to priority #1 because everyone else had ordered 2 SS's or added something funky. Now I wait...
