dumb question. How do I order a Camaro?

Sorry, I've never bought a new car before (and Im 32... eeeek!). I was hoping to save around $5k-$15k (work bonus/tax return/ first time home buyer stimulas) as a down payment for early next year. I'm waiting until next year because I need to dispute a few credit issues and save.
Anyone have a suggestion on what I should do? Get a bank loan first? etc...

Well, it depends on if you want to pre-order to get one off the lot. If pre-order, no need to get a loan first, the terms will probably expire before the car gets here and you'll have to do it again. Otherwise just go to your local dealer, ensure they will sell at no higher than MSRP (get that in writing signed by sales or general manager) and have them submit an order. Leave down payment ($500-$1000 is reasonable - specify refundable!!! In writing!!!) and wait, wait, wait...

That's true, except that you don't need to get preapproved. I mean it's a good idea, but not all dealers require it. Mainly because that approval will expire before you even get the car. I ordered the car at MSRP with a down payment and no credit check.

Depends on your dealer and thier allocations, anywhere from 6 weeks + just no way to say.

It shouldn't take anything close to 6 months to get your car anymore. Some pre-order guys have waited about 9 months, but now that production has caught up with that, it should take about 3 months at the most to get it. But, that also means your dealer has an allocation for the car. Also, if you're not looking to get one until next year, you might just want to try to buy one off the lot. There should be plenty around by then, and enough of them getting sold at, or under, MSRP.

Getting pre approved is something you should do before you walk in the door. The expiration won't hurt your credit if it's not rejected outright.

When you have the money lined up you hold the cards. When you just walk in and let them run your credit.. they have the cards.

Just my 2c. Read some threads on the experiances before you pull the trigger.

Basics would be.
1. Pull your 3 and 1 credit plus FICO. Fix any errors. If credit good then goto 2 if bad then fix with older POS purchases.

2. Set budget, payments and amount and select a car. Once that's done go to 3. This includes insurance quote and calculation in your tco.

3. Get pre approved at a credit union or other finance.

4. Shop and lay our your terms of what car and how much and that it will have no hidden or unapproved charges and no dealer sticker on the back.

Remember the car's TCO when you do your budget. This is total cost of ownership.

I'm really getting tired of the use of the word "idiot" on this forum. Why must we resort to such language?

Your a moron... better? Seriously, if you don't know how to buy a car at 30, I don't think you should be able to own one let alone drive on the road.
