AFTER BREAK IN, THEN 2 TRACK DAYS (road course) the zl1 motor really came alive

now after racing the z, the car seems to be so much better, driving around now it puts the power down so much better, nap time is over the beast woke up from a break in nap, I can tell a big differance from brand new till now, 2 track days the tires and breaks look good,

THE MOTOR REALLY COMES ALIVE!!!!!!!!

Did you change your brake fluid prior to tracking ??

If not, Any issues at all with fade using stock fluid ?

They should put better break fluid in from factory, this is truly a track car, dot 4 to the rescue.

Good to hear! I've always wondered why they don't use dot 4 on performance vehicles?

Good to hear! I laugh, when I see someone more worried about if the dealership left all the factory plastic on, or if they installed the front plate (won't mention names). This is where your true value is pleasured with these vehicles (imo), and why GM invested a lot of moola into this program. In the end, you only live once!

There was a guy at the last BW track event, with a black ZL1, breaking it in - at the track. No joke!

Thanks, that'll be next on my list prior to a track here in Phoenix, after we get to sub 100's.

Wow, any catch on the VIN, i'd hate someone here buying it later on and not getting what they expect, I myself have less than 100 miles to go to finish my break in.

How high were the engine oil temps during the track session? I am about to decide if I should get a ZL1 to replace my Grand Sport, and I really need to learn about its track performance.. I don't want to cook and change the oil after every event

From Autoblog:

Quote:
For the most part, we tend to shy away from forced induction on the track as it generates massive amounts of heat. We always seem to run into problems at these hot Southern California desert venues. The Camaro ZL1, despite a liquid-to-liquid engine oil cooler identical to the system on the Corvette ZR1, showed signs of stress after several relentlessly long and hard runs in the 100-plus degree conditions. The oil temperature, normally in the 200-degree range, slowly crept up past 300 more than once and the ZL1's self-preservation mode kicked-in. Rather than risk tying up a hot track with a hampered car threatening "limp mode," we pulled into the pits and opened the hood to let things cool down..

I wouldn't base a car decision on that. If you are going to be doing real long hot lap sessions, just put a better oil cooler in.
