Is it filled up? The newest version of factory hardware will only index 10,000 songs.

USB drives are a pain. It has to index every time you start the car if it's been turned off for a while. With a lot of music on it, it can take a long time to index. Ipod is much better. It does it's own indexing and retains settings unlike USB drives.

Excuse me, I was just using that as an example as it is what I use. Yes there are many that will work. Probably better if they don't convert to mp4 like Ipod or scatter the files like Ipod making it difficult to copy from Ipod.

It shouldn't take more than 30 seconds to index after starting the car. When you first put in the USB, it can take several minutes, but that's just the first time. I see you have the 2010. Have you taken yours in for the hardware/software upgrade? It fixes the indexing time.
