Galaxy S3 not recognized as USB compatible?

I have the VZW Samsung Galaxy S3, upgraded from the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The Nexus plugged into the USB cable shows up as a media device and I can play my MP3 music with full control through the 2012 2SS.

Now, fast forward to a few weeks ago when I get the S3 and loss some music into it... you plug in and on the radio display it says No supported media on device.

The media is the same media that I copied from the old Nexus. Same exact. I plug into my new 2012 Cruze and see the same error.

I'm guessing that the 2012 system is not working on anyone's S3 for MP3 music over USB?

Standard Bluetooth telephone functions are fine.

Have you read the phones manual? Some phones have to be put into airplane mode before they can be used like this. Unfortunately doing so also means you can't send or receive calls.

The newer versions of Android don't have mass storage device, they have media device or something.

They have 3 options, mass storage is one of the options.

When you plug your phone into a USB device, like your computer or the car, you can pull down the notification tray and change what the device "looks like" to the connected device. Just change it to Media Device or Mass Storage.

Not exactly. On the Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy S3 you see only these two options.

Oddly enough, with the Nexus in the same setting, it works fine and well. With the S3 as shown, the car gets nothing.

I get the same results in both the 2012 Cruze with the 250W Pioneer and the 2012 Camaro with the Boston Acoustic system. Both like the Nexus and do nothing with the S3.

and your screen above my post, that looks same as my Nexus with three choices. The screen shot I'm showing us on the S3.

There's no easy fix for this. There are a dozen versions of the GS3, but for a couple of the versions, if you root your phone, you can use a terminal mode as superuser to enable some hidden settings, then load a file that adds more USB modes. The whole rooting thing is complicated, but you can search at XDA Developers or Rootzwiki

I tried to do it on my Verizon GS3 and could not get it to work, but at least the bluetooth streaming works, and steering wheel controls let me switch tracks and adjust volume.
