Can't blame them...it just a door latch. Lots of metal parts rust on cars. Look under your hood or underneath you will see rust on any car. As long as your frame and body are not rusting dont worry about it.

Mine is actually really bad. It was just bothering me yesterday. Passenger side, so I'm not up close and personal with it daily. But I'm sure everyone who's gotten in my car thinks less of me as a person when they see the rust all over it.

You should file a lemon law complaint with the BBB, GM should give you a brand new car!

I can't say that I've ever seen a door strike rust on any of my cars, and I've owned a lot of GM cars. But, right there in the pic, there's rust forming on the edge of the strike where it meets the body. So long as it's not eating through paint or doesn't get much larger, I wouldn't worry.

You could take them off and have them powdercoated. Of course, the powdercoat would wear off where the door actually strikes, but that's expected. Or, you can try new strikes at apparently $15/each. I would think those would be electroplated or galvanized or whatever...maybe a bad batch?

Also, have you taken it in to show it to a dealer? I wouldn't think rust on the actual wear part of the latch would be covered, but the piece that abuts the body...I'd get a 2nd opinion.

Remove it and have it chromed. My exhaust manifolds rusted and they would not replace them either.

anything made of metal will rust if it's exposed to oxygen.

Looks like normal wear to me. I would expect to be laughed off the dealers lot if i complained about that. If you find yourself spending hours at a time going from your door latches to your exhaust manifolds to your rotors then back to the door latches......there is medication to help.

Not exactly, the metal in question has to have iron in it... Aluminum doesn't rust, it corrodes. Totally different chemical process. (Yes, I'm a nerd)

Rust is Fe2O3... 2 parts iron 3 parts oxygen
