NEED A LITTLE HELP!!! Just Waxed My 2010 SIM LLT!

So, I have a SIM Camaro. 1LT, but vin says its a 2LT? No leather, 20in wheels, sunroof, premium sound. Anyways... I just waxed it, Sort of. HA! This is the first car I have actually been able to even wax..

I'm 20, 21 in 9 days, but no biggy. I used Meguire's Caranuba wax, drivers side turned out pretty good, but I feel like it's not a very good wax job (technique wise). Any pointers would be entertained.

My Technique:

I use the applicator that came with the wax to apply the wax in a counter clockwise circular motion slightly larger than a softball.

I wait about 15 mins after applying and use a different pad (microfiber from autozone) to remove wax in a clockwise motion.

I then sprayed the surface with Mother's Showtime Instant Detailer, and wiped off the excess wax that may have not dried or was just too thick and left over.

I then take a refreshing drink from a can of bud light, and continue to the next part of the vehicle until completely finished.

I ran out of daylight today, so that being said, I didn't finish the entire car. Very bummed out, but plan to finish tomorrow.

I do know that it should be a comfortable temperature, and not scorching hot outside. I was about 75 degrees F when I did my wax.

THANKS, and don't make fun of me or anything. At least I admitted my issue and don't say I know it all and whatnot! I just want what is best for my car!!!!

Hope For Help!

That's ironic, I just detailed a friend of mines sequoia with the same exact stuff an turned out great I liked this OTC wax but you can't really follow the directions to a tee or it will dry and will be a PITA to remove. I just did a small area in a cross hatch pattern, misted the section with detail spray and removed. Hope this helps. Happy early bday!

I waxed mine yesterday... turned out nice. Tried the 'new' Armorall Smooth Butter Wax with Carnuba. Wasn't bad at all... no waiting for a haze and no buffing. Tony Stewart told me to use it!

Well, if you want a quicker wax job, I'd recommend Turtle Wax Ice Spray Wax. I use it after every wash and it keeps my SIM Camaro outstandingly shiny.

I'd suggest having just the applicator, and two microfiber cloths on hand if you are using regular wax. Just do a small section at a time. Work the wax in with the applicator on area you are working on, then use one of the microfiber cloths to take off the wax initially. Then take the second and buff it off to polish it. Make sure you look at it from different angles and use the second microfiber cloth to finish polishing any missed spots. Then move to the next area to wax.

**and don't wait so long to take off the wax. It begins to dry on the finish and becomes harder to take off. You have to take it off within a couple minutes after applying, otherwise it'll take you forever!!...I learned that the hard way with my first car haha.

I don't know that wax, but most that I've used I only let sit for a few minutes. Once it gets dry it's really hard to get it all off. And the best time to wax your car is at night, on a cloudy day or inside a garage. Direct sunlight is generally not good when waxing.

thanks. i would imagine i'm doing most of it correctly! maybe its because its my car, just doesn't seem nearly as shiny as everyone elses'. the wax does get hard, just more tacky than pasty by the time i wipe it off. it seems that if i don't let it dry enough, it will just build up ALOT on the microfiber towels. enough to where i would have to change towels after every panel.

I find that when I wax my SIM that Miller Lite makes it come out better.

You're using too much wax at one time, like putting it on too thick. Instead of making circles with the applicator, use long vertical strokes on the doors, fenders and rear. Long horizontal strokes on the hood, roof and trunk. Trying to wipe off a thick layer of wax tends to lead to not getting it all off. May leave a bit of residue behind. Then going behind it with quick detailer may cause it to look hazy. Thin coats..... and Miller Lite

SIM is a great color btw

This is correct. There's no need to let carnuabas sit at all. Wax on, wax off. Apply a THIN layer, as Garcmol said, and immediately buff off. Fold you towels into quarters, this gives you 8 clean surfaces to remove wax.

Also, all this discussion about which direction you apply is kind of funny. Circles, crosshatch, MZ, whatever gets your rocks off. Just do whatever ensures you don't miss any spots.
