Oil
I read all the stuff about which oil each person uses!! I have always used Quaker state in my cars to include a 77 camaro and have never had an issue with any vehicle. Would Quaker state or pennzoil ultra (since they are both shell) be ok to run in my 2012 camaro ? I want full synthetic and have always been happy with Quaker state oils. I know im going to hear RP, amsoil, mobil 1 ect. But I just want to know if these two oil brands will protect my vehicle ? I have heard of a few using them in there camaro but not many talk about there satisfaction with them. Thanks in advance!

Let me put it this way...the 'satisfaction' most people get out of engine oil choices is mostly mental, and mostly make-believe. All oils that meet GM's oil specifications lubricate the engine mostly the same and will also contribute to the success of a long-lasting engine.
Stick to the manufacturer's recommendations, and if anything goes wrong, then you can blame them. Personally, I used Mobil 1 5-30 in my SS, but that's because I can generally find it at any auto parts stores, and there's deals to be had online as well. But I'm sure Quaker synthetics and others are just as good. |

mobil 1, it says it right on your oil cap, not that you can't use something else, but that is what chevy recommends.

I've had Chevy engines run well past 150k on mixed brands of oil. I'm not sure what was factory-fill in my '72 blazer with the 350, but it was still running strong on the original motor in 2010 before I sold it. It saw it's fair share of Jiffy-lube oil changes, DIY oil changes, etc. Heck, you could probably have put vaseline in the engine for oil and beer for fuel, and it would keep running faithfully. |

I agree, it has more to do with how often you change it, then what oil you use, but i would definitely use synthetic, with the correct weight.

@11fastss: My oil cap does not say Mobil 1 on it just so you know. It's a 2012 and it has the new GM dexos synthetic blend oil on the cap. Sorry to burst your Mobil 1 bubble. Just hate how veveryone claims Mobil 1 Is the oil that comes in my car when in fact it is not. Thanks for the good info guys!!

The oil that came in the car is:
AC Delco Dexos 5W-30 Synthetic Oil At least that's what came in my 2011 1LT.

It is a matter of preference. I changed the dexos synthetic to Mobil 1 because that is what I ran in my Corvette. Oil is oil, they have to meet the same Federal standard that all auto manufacturers are compliant to.

i used mobile 1 once. never spend that much on oil again. no point. i can change the oil twice for that cost and have better engine protection from viscosity levels of fresh oil.

Whether Mobil 1 is what comes in the cars now or not, it is one of the oils that specifically meets the dexos requirements and has proven to be very good oil. I use it and will continue to use it.

I was told by the dealer to use a dexos rated oil. I was told by a vendor of the forums to use Mobil 1 full synthetic.
I think the brand really comes down to choice. As long as you meet the requirements and change your oil regularly you will be good. I change mine between 5000-6000 miles.
