Cool Planning on getting a ATV

i dunno how many of yall are into Atv's and such. But i plan on buying one here soon a week or two maybe a month. I dont know that much about them but there are a few that have caught my eye and i have watched a few video reviews on youtube and i kinda like the Cam-am Atv's the most, well the newer 13's look so aggresive and mean and from the videos i saw they seem to do great in what im looking for. Im just gonna use it for riding around a bunch of trails and on property that the family owns. So any advice is welcomed. Oh and what would be some good pricing on maybe a 650 outlander xt or a 500 outlander xt

The CVT transmissions are nice for yard work, putting around. They are belt driven. There is a very slim possibilty that you could burn the belt if too much of a load is placed on the CVT, such as heavy towing or being stuck with out the wheels being able to spin. Also, if you get in deep water, the belt may slip. I believe Honda has an automatic similiar to a car's transmission, uses hydraulics. If you are looking into a 4 wheel drive, make sure you know what kind of 4 wheel drive system it is. Some 4 wheel drive systems operate with the front being an open differential. Which makes it easier to steer, but offers very little in added traction. The front wheel with the least amount of traction will get all the power. If you get one with a locking front diff, traction will be great, but steering will be hard. There are a lot of combinations out there, meaning you can run an open diff and then lock it for added traction. Also, there are models with power steering and even an open rear differential for yard work, so you won't tear up the grass. Low range may be a benefit for plowing. The larger utility quads have a tendency to roll the front tire under the quad in a hard turn and hitting the brakes. Utility quads usually have one brake lever that operates the front and rear brakes together and a foot brake that operates the rear brake. I'm partial to Polaris. IMO the frame is built stronger. Very little damage after roll overs when compared to the Yamaha's I had. If you ride enough, you'll probably get board after a year or two with the automatic CVT. It will be time to buy a sport atv with a clutch and keep the CVT for work. You can't go wrong with any of the major players in the game.

I haven't bought new for awhile. But here are mine. I run the shyt out of them. I plow with the Scrambler, it only has a high range CVT. I fab'd a bracket to mount a plow. The quad was never designed to be used to plow snow. Still holding up well. I have another set of tires that I put on for summer, so I don't rip up the yard.

Here are 3 of my 5 ATV's
They are Cannondales made in 2001-03
I wouldn't recommend them to a first timer, very fast and lots of maintenance .
We have a Yamaha Wolverine for regular use. It's a nice Quad.

I almost bought one. They had alot of innovative thinking, such as the trans, frame.

They were very expensive to buy new.they started at 5995 and went up to 9000 or more.
They were the first to use fuel injection. The one on the right in my picture has a shift select option, you can switch to one of three maps on the fly.
The orange one (Glamis ) is one of only 56 made.

When it comes to 2wd sport quads get the king, Yamaha 700 Raptor:

With just an intake/exhaust/tune I ran 8.50s in the 1/8 mile:

I took a stock one down back in 06 and ran 9.0s:

They are bulletproof all the way to 70rwhp(even the stock clutch).

[QUOTE=Bo White;5549251]When it comes to 2wd sport quads get the king, Yamaha 700 Raptor:

Had a 660 Raptor. It was strong except it was too narrow, top heavy, tippy. It did slice through the woods great since it was narrow. Rolled it on a hill. Very light roll. Bent the sub frame and tore the rear fender plastic. Rolled it on the 2nd day I took it out. 1st day just ran it in the yard. 2nd time out, went up a decent hill, done many times in other quads and stalled it. Found out that I was actually out of gas. Never checked it, dealer was supposed to top the tank off.

Forgot all about the fuel injection. If I remember correctly, you could upgrade to great pair triple rate shocks, could swap the trans (no case splitting) and they were light. Having to search for a dealer in my area basically lead me to something different. Still would like to ride one, never had the opportunity.

The 660 and 700 have very little in common. The 700 has more in common with the YFZ450 than the 660. I went to buy a LTR450 when I bought my 700. Salesman(which Ive known for 20 years) said they dont sell Suzuki anymore "but Ive just got a Raptor in". I was like "no, dont like the 660, too top heavy- Ive rode a few".
"You havent rode the 700, its new". One ride around the property and signed papers and loaded it up.
BTW, I bought it mainly to race- all types:
Dont ask how much air I was getting lol.
