LFX Design - Easiest Oil Change Ever.

Ever since I was old enough to have been able to hold a flash light - I've assisted and changed oil in the vehicles my family has owned. Just did the break-in oil change and my god - I have never changed the oil in a vehicle that's been as easy or pain free as my Camaro. Caught the thread in general about the Mobile 1 5qt + filter (M1C-254) for 30$ at Advanced Auto and bought 3 sets. Came home and changed the oil and thought back on all the other cars that could have designed this task to be so easy.

My 92 cavalier had the oil filter almost touching the firewall that had to be accessed from the bottom. My '98 Dodge Dakota Sport is almost directly above the exhaust manifold for those interesting pattern burns and a strong desire to evolve into a creature with 2 elbows on each arm.

Honestly - the 2 hardest parts of the install was finding the Mobile 1 filter part number and figuring out what I wanted for lunch afterwards.

Has any of your cars been as easy as your Camaro? What nightmare stories do your other cars hold?

OP had 15 quarts of oil to work with. He said he bought three "sets."

Yes, it does take six quarts.

Changing oil on my '83 Grand Prix was also a breeze, I think my Camaro (LLT) is going to be even easier. Just need to get it off the ground, well, maybe. I should see if I'm skinny enough to squeeze under there first, but I doubt it lol.

I still have one free oil change left at Tires Plus, I'm going to use that up first, then I'll be tackling it on my own. They effed up first oil change, luckily I caught it, hence the free oil change. Well 2 free oil changes, and an alignment. Didn't even have to say a word, didn't show anger, they just did it.

Jack and jackstands will work, I used my set of gorilla ramps - they provided just enough clearance not to scrap the front wind deflector. For ~50$ you can get a decent set of ramps and have total confidence getting under the car for these kinds of maintenance jobs - but removing the front fascia or suspension work, get atleast a pair of jackstands (unless you have access to a lift).

It's very easy to do for sure! It's a wonder why some folks don't do it themselves.

This was my break-in change (a little late) at around 2500 - was pleasantly greeted to no filings on the drain plug. I planned to change around 5000 miles or 25% as indicated on the DIC - excessive? maybe - but its quick, easy an relatively inexpensive. GM has a built-in Oil Life monitor and some quick reading leads me to believe that if you follow your dash - you'll never have any headaches with warranty issues if they arise.

You can follow your dash for oil life, just make sure you don't trust your dash for oil LEVEL.
