2012 Roush Mustang GT
Man, I truly hate this. Bought the wife a 2013 mustang GT yesterday. While there they had a 2012 Roush Mustang GT level 2....sticker is $48K.
Anyway, just bought a 2012 1SS, auto, RS. And result is about $4K upside down vs trade value. The Mustang is decked out with all the whistles, level 2 upgrade the suspension and exhaust along with the dress up items. They offered a deal w/trade in on my car....out the door $2K off the sticker...$46K. For those of you that know about mustangs......is a Roush upgraded GT know to hold the value? Car runs great and handles well, sounds bad ass too....lol. |

Don't go into a new car upside down just to get even more upside down..either put some cash with it or don't do it...

Sounds like an impulse buy. I would let the idea marinade in your head for a few days before you get further into debt. Money says the car and offer will still be there at that time.
Good luck

The Mustang is better priced than the Camaro and it does have bells and whistles, but Mustangs are so common. People hardly notice them. Now Camaros, they get noticed!

The Roush Stage 2 is a lesser car than a Boss 302. In addition, the Boss is cheaper. Finally, these things usually have deep discounts at the end of the model year. I have seen hyper series and Stage 3s going for nearly 10K off of sticker by the end of the model year. Just thinking out loud here, but I am guessing you could easily get an aftermarket suspension kit that would make your camaro handle equal to or better than the Stage 2 for less than you would lose on the trade.

Roush cars hold their value well but usually aren't worth all that money upfront, so chances are you are gonna play hell with resale. If it was me, I would keep the camaro and upgrade it. The mustangs are good cars, but a stage 2 Roush car isn't that great. Especially not for $48k. Now if it was a stage 3 that may be a bit different. Also, I wasn't aware Roush even made mustang packages anymore? I thought they quit working directly with ford after the new bodystyle came out? Is this car being sold as new or used?

Roush Mustangs in general are way overpriced. You can get the same performance mods put on your car for a fraction of the cost. You're basically just paying for the name. As others have already said, it would be better to go for the Boss if you're going to drop $48k on a Mustang. Hell, at that price you could even get a lightly used GT500.
However, if you just bought a car, you should probably just sit on that for a little while. A good deal's only a good deal if you were already looking to buy (and have the money). |
