Black Powder Coat - Chips and Pissed

Any one else have this issue after powder coating their factory rims?

Got my rims powdered coated last thursday. drove it home. she sat in the garage for the next 3 days. Drove it Monday and yesterday and then I find this (see picture below)?!?! WTF. Needless to say I will be calling and visiting my powder coat shop today.

Other 2 pictures are from Thursday right before we had them installed.

A piece of metal or rock would do that on the bare aluminum. If that's the only spot then it may not be anyones fault. Just shitty luck like getting a windshield replaced an then getting a chip the next day. :(

Yea. I am pretty sure it was from some solid debris (rock/metal) caused it while driving but I just want to make sure it was not something that would happen very easily.

I am going to go see them to see if they can work some magic.

Any ideas to blend this in so it is not so obvious?

very shitty luck..ugh. i hope I dont have this with my incomming MODs.

They should have an idea how to blend. Damn the luck.

Hopefully they can fix it.

Did your company chemical dip the rims prior to powder coating them? The guy I talked to here in Glendale charges 300 for all 4 rims which includes a 48 hours chemical dip to remove all the clear coat and impurities.

300..thats a nice price. ill have to ask again for the ful process..im in Iraq right now getting ready to be home to even see my car. i know the shop and they have done over a dozen camaro rims. I know they sand blasted them and they did see a chemical reation during their first test but they went back and took care of the issue. I will know more details when the wife brings the chipped rim back for recoat.

Wheels can be stripped or blasted. If he did it for 2 days then he uses some weak crap. When I coated I preferred blasting because it also prepares the surface better for adhesion and it won't give you cancer. But stripping is less labor and easier for the shop.

Cleaning the surface after either is just as important as with painting. Its all in the prep.
