Allocation?

I understand about using allocation as a guide line based on past slaes and this and that but wouldn't it be a good starting point and then couldn't it be adjusted on number of orders per dealer and such. What I'm saying is lets say dealer A is a prominant dealer had 25 allocations to start and filled those in no time at all, and dealer B had 8 allocations and only filled maybe 4 or so even a month after produciton started. So people for whatever reason want to continue to purchase form dealer A shouldn't something be done to try and get this dealer more allocations? The reason i bring this up I ordered in Feb. and I have been one of the most patient people on this site and I haven't had one complaint so far but people who have ordered in May are moving along faster than i am now and somethings not quite fair about that. I'm right at the tail end of my original dealer allocation but if my dealer can sell these cars quicker than another shouldn't something be done about that? Is anything being done about that?

Kudos to the people who got lucky and found leftover allocation and ordered late and are moving right along. Until now the system hadn't bothered me but now I see what everyone else is complaining about. Guess i just needed to get it out, now I will go back to waiting patiently for this fantastic car.

I DON'T understand using allocations as a guideline.......If a customer orders a car, isn't it basically already sold? Why the allocation?? I order a car, it should be made as soon as possible. Why does it matter how many the dealership has already ordered or how many they've already recieved? It's a sold car, make it, deliver it, and sell it to the customer as soon as possible!! I think I moved faily quick=ordered on 4/24 and moved to 3000 in mid May......there's plenty of people on here that ordered way before me and are still at 1100. I just don't understand the allocations, I would think GM would want to sell as many of these cars as soon as possible.

It has to do with the dealer agreements with GM and francise law. Just because dealer A sold 50unit, that does not mean they can screw dealer B. This topic has been talked about alot, try using the search to find lots of topics.

All GM can due is guarantee that each dealer will get their entire allocation by the end of the third quarter. So some dealers that did not do pre-orders, or had little pre-orders can get someone a car alot faster than those that ordered way back when.

I ordered way back when (jan) and will be one of the last to be my car. Dumb me for being tricked into a marketing program (early order). Never again.

This statement ONLY makes sense from the perspective of the the customer- so, of course, we see how serious GM treats this. The R6P program was really a marketing tool to discover the desired options customers would want in the vehicle to more efficiently gear up the factory for production of a brand new vehicle, it was never intended as anything more...the IDL shown many moons ago by the dealers from Wisconsin were right. Oh you won't find that kind of information it on this forum anymore.

They were able to prioritize cars for celebrities and other special situations. Why can't they prioritize all the R6P orders to the front?

Answer: they can. They just don't want to.

It would be nice if one of the first actions of the "new" GM was to make this thing right (well at least better) and put a hold on all non-preorders in order to get the preorders done first.

I ordered from a dealer that had used all their allotments. I was order 32, dealer had 30 allotments. Talked to salesman yesterday and was told I was now 3rd in line. Should receive allotment next week. I ordered on 5-4. Was told that process has speeded up in the last few weeks. Hope you hear something soon on your order.

Let me explain allotment and allocations as easy as I can for you...

FRANCHISE AGREEMENTS and CONTRACTS. You sell x amount of cars, you get x amount of Camaros. Whether or not you pre-sell them is up to you.

Some dealers have beena awarded more allocation, I was number 22 at my dealer and they only had 18 allocations, then they were awarded more and I was at 3000 on may 27th.

I ordered april 6th btw, but I kept thinking I would never get the car cause I was outside their original allocation, now I dont see why I was bumped maybe people with constraints cause some wanted the high wing spoiler other wanted the hurst so maybe I got pushed in front I dont know but Im lucky!!

This is a moot point now, many pre-ordered thinking they would be first in line so they could have a low VIN #. Well as we know ain't happening now. If you did preorder and are lucky to have a low vin but stuck in QC then you have what you want, a low VIN. The whole problem I see is peoples perception. I have read post after post where people do not want they dealership to even wash these cars or PDI them. For some strange reason people think that they can but this car put it away for 25 years and sell it for a bunch of money, well maybe if you are Rick Hendrick and have VIN#1 or I forgot he paid $350,000.00 for his.

I want my car just like everyone else does, but remember it is a CAR. A very very very nice car I might add but still a car. It is not the 69 Camaro your Father, Grandfather or whomever had. While I really wish I could bring back 1969 this too will not happen. We will not know the real effect of this car for 25 years from now. Everyone remember the Prowler, hot car, high priced and now look at it. There has not been a car since the Trans Am's of Smokey and the Bandit that is worth anything. The Muscle Car of yester year is sadly gone unless you own a classic, which I am lucky to own.

So while I understand everyone's frustration with the whole ordering process, ME, included, lighten up a little. Thanks this is just my humble opinion.
