Warning - Door Panel - Sun - Magnification - issue!
Warning - Door Panel - Sun - Magnification issue!
Just a FYI for anyone that might have a open door and would leave it out for a car show in the sun! I been going to car shows for over a year now all the time. Never had a issue. But it looks like i just parked the right way and the sun lined up correctly to cause this. The Light was so hot i was not able to keep my hand in it for to long. It started to melt the plastic around the Window buttons You can see the plastic melted in the first picture! Now i know whats going on i can move or put something there so it wont happen again. Just dont know if its covered under warranty.

The dealer should take care of that for you....

Seems like this could happen to any car parked at just the right angle at a mall or grocery store.
Since I've never heard of it occurring before, maybe you could argue there was a defect in the plastic?? I'd try to get it fixed under warranty... all they can do is refuse.

The dealer should cover that no question.
If they can't make a plastic to withstand direct sunlight, then GM has no business selling convertibles. |

Probably happend due to lambo doors always open. Puts them right up in the sun. Not a warranty issue even though dealer may fix. Probably just bad luck. Would the sun have reflected onto that spot had the doors been in the factory position? GM can't really account for lambo doors being open and up exposing them further.
Part is cheap though. Get her fixed like new |

I've got a spot like that on my passenger door. Not near as big though. I'll snap a picture tonight.

Those parts can't be all that expensive, except.
I just looked and they want you to buy a whole door panel to get the switch bezels, that's a load of BS.

From what I can tell this can happen when the door is normally open and the sun is behind the car at the right spot or even if the door is up with the Vertical doors. As long as the sun hits the right spot it does this. I can even reproduce it with and flashlight. So if i had the back of the car up on wheel stands and the door was open like normal and the sun was behind the car at the right spot for 15 mins it would melt the plastic :-( Wait that's allot of if's maybe i need to play the lottery! |

Have you taken it to a dealership to see if this is something covered under warranty? The warranty only covers defects in materials/workmanship and the dealer would have to make that determination. Let us know the outcome. Brandon Chevrolet Customer Service

I would think it would be "defects in materials/workmanship" since it was only having the door open and normal Florida sunlight that caused the issue of the plastic to melt.
But yes i am starting to work with a local dealer to review. Thanks for the heads up! |
