I have winter tires, which is what you should do. Summer tires in the winter is just asking for trouble. edit: I also spent the past 3 winters in North Western PA (near Erie, PA) and I was perfectly fine with winter tires. |

When I lived in Utah, used to put a bag of sand (commercial construction sand) in the trunk--not so much for the weight as for the material to spread in front of the tires to increase traction when I eventual came to a stop. Very seldom had to use the sand--the weight was sufficient for traction. The snow tires probably helped a lot also.

No extra weight in trunk, but I do try to keep the gas tank at least half full. With good snow tires (not just all-seasons), traction control, and stability control, the extra weight was not needed.

I haven't driven my Camaro in winter yet as I got mine in April, and I did get snow tires.
But previously I had a 2006 1SS (RWD) TBSS, and I put in 4 (70) lb bags. I kept the bags, but will try the snow tires and see if I need a bag or two.

You have the RS, which comes with summer-only tires, so I would suggest snow tires for sure. Weight will do you no good with summer-only tires in the snow and ice.

I live outside of Pittsburgh, get around great. I have 2 subs in my trunk, no idea what that is probably 50ish? The biggest thing is the winter tires like people said. Got around in snow storms just fine. Actually drove better than any front wheel I've had in the past with all-season tires.
I DID drive it with all season tires when I first bought it in the snow and the tires were brand new. It moved but I sure wouldn't want to spend a whole winter like that.
