Any Difference between 2012 and 2013 ZL1 Engines?

The reason I ask this is that my brother and I both have ZL1's. His is 2012 and mine is 2013, both Manual trans, both with similar total miles (@800)

Here are dyno results from last night, both cars on the same dyno on the same evening....

2012: 607 RWHP and 604 RWTQ

2013: 603 RWHP and 544 RWTQ

Both cars are modded the exact same. We did the mods ourselves. The mods are:

Airaid Cold Air Box
Metco Billet Aluminum Harmonic Balancer Kit
Metco 9.55 Lower Pulley

The dyno is DynoJet 248. All parameters were the same.

Notes:

1. The 2013 made smooth consistent pulls right off the street.

2. The 2012 had to have the ABS fuse pulled as it would not pull clean through the rpm range even after trying to turn off abs functions within the computer.

3. Fuel and timing curves were similar on both cars and set similarly during the tuning phase.

4. Both cars dynoed in track mode (5).

Considering the above, we are wondering if GM changed the camshaft
profile on the 2013 as 60 ft/lbs of torque is significant.

Any tuner feedback is appreciated.

If you have an empty road/space both do a 3rd gear pull from 1500rpms to confirm the dyno results. Also make sure the afr and spark are indeed the same on both cars, did you disable the supercharger bypass boost control? I'm assuming you need to cause we needed to do that on our zr1 otherwise boost was weird and jumping all over the place.

Even if gm did change the camshaft there's noway its gonna make this much more

Also if u have dynosheets or the tune files post them up. Were u sure there was no knock retard or burst knock active on your car?

The engines are the same. Your brother is just a better driver than you are.

Can someone ban this troll? He can't read and doesn't understand what a dyno pull is....and by his choice of automobiles, appears to be nothing more then a prairie chicken jealous that eagles can fly. His countless, dry humored replies to posts on this forum lend proof to his inability to attract a metro-sexual mate in real life and that he spends his hours combing these forums in hopes of sexy car pictures to help him release his anxiety in hopes of another restful after ejaculate sleep.

Back to the thread...has anyone else dynoed 2 of these Camaros on the same day before and logged the results? Has anyone noticed if the ECU has changed between the model years with regards to parameters set for the ABS system and Overboost Protection?

To answer about on track performance, both cars when stock ran within .001 of each other at the dragstrip with almost the exact same MPH. We installed the CAI and pulleys 2 days ago and have not been back to the track yet. We did not dyno either car when stock.

Sorry that my sense of humor offended you. I do often try for a quick laugh and I know that some of my humorous posts are more successful than others. I also participate here because I do have a 2013 IOM M6 ECF ZL1 on order to share garage space with my 2008 torch red with black stripes Shelby GT500 (ordered new in 2007). I did previously have a black 1976 Limited Edition Trans Am (from 1976 to 1989) with T-tops and a big gold "screaming chicken" on the hood, so maybe your prairie chicken remark isn't that far off. I've had the '87 Fiero GT since new (the first year you could order a five speed manual with the V6 engine in a Fiero). It currently has around 57,600 miles on it and as my daily driver gives me something fun for the daily commute to work while allowing the GT500 (and patiently awaited ZL1) to stay safe in my garage.

Thanks for the reply! No problem....my first wife had a Fiero, and the one thing i remember was how hot the rear glass got in the summer months. My brother of course, is reveling in the fact that his car has so much more torque....LOL.

When we figure out what is causing the difference, we will post the results so that other 2013 owners can use the data to maximize the potential of these modifications or to prevent possibly the same tuning mistakes that we might have made inside the ECU of this car.

a lot of factors come in when getting actual number on a dyno... i would not be worried that his ran better, engine temperature is a huge thing and you could of just been running hot. also whatever number your given from a dynojet its safe to say plus or minus 5-7HP

Sky king, after looking at your vehicle line up I must say you are one lucky individual. I can only hope that when I grow older and start a family I'll be able to have cars as sexy as yours. If I ever make it to Georgia please take me for a spin in the mclaren that's one of my dream cars.

Tire slip on the dyno will flatten the torque curve greatly. Did your car have no real peak in the torque curve? I'm guessing not. I had to have a person in the passenger seat , a 15 yr old kid in the back seat and someone sit in the trunk to keep from having tire spin.

Do you have both dyno read-outs that we could all see?

And this is what we had to do to dyno my Trans Am without tire slip.
