ZL1 Pump on NA & Nitrous?

I am looking to beef up my fuel system for safety with the occasional 100 - 150 shot of nitrous at the strip. I understand that it may not be necessary now, but would rather address this issue this winter. I am running a TSP 231 cam, ls3.

If I replace the fuel pump with the ZL1 pump will the car need retuned? Or would I be better off running something like a lingenfelter boost a pump on a switch with the nitrous?

ZL1 pump is a very nice pump. I am just at 600rwhp and I hold 58psi under WOT. I think some people on here are way over me running a ZL1 pump.

You do not need a tune just change pump plug and play.

Thanks! Was just curious, wasn't sure if the pressure difference affected the injectors.

For.what the cost of the pump is and the labor you will pay, why not get a standalone fuel system? You can find them around 500 used , 700 brand new, then you can run race gas in it and run more timing for more power without having any dips in fuel pressure like spraying from the fuel rail does. Nitrous outlet and nitrous express make great ones.

That does sound like an option. I will keep an eye out for a used one. Labor is no issue, I will be doing the work myself. Probably be cutting and adding a nice access panel through the floor for pump replacement. Thanks for the info!

There's a reason cars don't have that anymore

I'd strongly advise you to not do that.

Ok, what's the reason?

I ran a 225 shot on a 231/236, making 700rwhp and had enough fuel, was just starting to run out at 7k rpm, so you should have enough. That being said, the ZL1 pump is a good cheap upgrade

Potential for gas to leak into interior.

Good point. I suppose in a rollover wreck that could happen. I hope to keep the shiny side up!

Holy cow! That's a lot of horsepower on the stock system. Its been said on here a few places that ls3's fuel system is good only to around 550 rwhp! What setup are you running now?

I'm talking about fumes in the interior of the car.

There is a reason cars don't have it anymore. That's all I mean. If your going to just race the car it won't really matter I guess. But if it's a car you street and put other people in, I'd tell you having an access panel would just be irresponsible.
