Windrestrictor and possible solving of the parachuting effect.

Hey all

i had a thought but I need others who have this to chime in.

The parachuting effect of the vert top -- when the top is down and you aren't running with the tonneau cover on -- you're on the road going at a good clip and you look back and see the fabric somewhat flapping in the wind.

If you have a windrestrictor (the one that attaches behind the rear seat), does this take care of the parachuting effect?

Thanks
Ross

The wind that bounces off the wind restrictor has to go somewhere. The folded top is right near the bounce point.

I have a windrestrictor and it doesn't make any difference. The wind still goes under the windrestrictor and gets at the top, making the top flap in the wind. I just make sure to put the tonneau cover on when I know I'm going to be going 40mph or faster.

Why? It serves no purpose 3 ft behind your head.

Wow, thank you for your answer. I thought it would but I usually put the tonneau cover on when I know I'm going out of town. I've thought maybe it was not good for the cloth with all that wind, etc. So it's just for apperance like my sport bar. Michael in Virginia

Who wants to drive with the windows up and the top down, not me well unless it's 45 degree and I'm on a high speed highway then probably so. Michael in Virginia

Would agree 100%, except that even if it's warm, it's nice at times to have the windows up on the interstate.
We have the lovethedrive wind deflector not the "restrictor" which I believe is more for show than function (and I think looks great btw, but I'm just a little more practical, and need to choose carefully my "accessories").
The wife and I took a 600 mile trip on Labor Day weekend with approximately 500 at interstate speeds. With the wind deflector up and windows down, not much difference in the top flapping, but with the windows up (all four), there was a major reduction in top movement, and the cab was very comfortable. Easier to converse as well as listening to music.
Just my experience.

As the manufacturer I thought I would chime in with what we know. I am not familiar with the "parachuting" effect, but we are familar with the loose Tonneau Covers. Also, I would have to assume that the shield would act in a small way as a reducer for this effect when considering how the windflow works in convertibles. We did use wind anemometers when testing the product to prove it's usefulness.

We do suggest contacting one of the authorized dealers here on the forum if you need any more detailed information. Happy top down driving everyone!
