Unhappy Windshield Replacement Paranoia

I just had my windshield replaced on my 2010 camaro by Safelite and I noticed a gap into between the "windshield frame" and the windshield glass. I miss the flush look of the factory glass and worry about any impact this may have on vehicle.

For those who've had their windshield replaced or just knowledgable in these matters, should I be concerned or am I just being paranoid?

Call them up and tell them you aren't happy. I had a company put a windshield in my Saturn once. They used the "cheap" glass without even letting me know there was a better option. When I complained about ripples in the glass and poor workmanship they put the high quality window in at no extra cost. It can't hurt for you to say something to them about it.

I'd get it double-checked before you go somewhere in the rain, or at least run some water over it to make sure it's really sealed. The Safelite guy who replaced mine in my Monte did a horseshit job. Managed to slice some seal he wasn't supposed to and the first rain I had a flooded interior, then he tried to say it was a faulty windshield not his workmanship. But I had a body shop check it out and they told me what he did wrong. Insurance made me have the same guy come back to fix it, but I was never happy. Looked like crap too because he put so much caulking in the gaps.

I had mine replaced and thought they forgot some trim or something was not right. Then I checked out all the other brand new Camaros on the lot, and they all looked the same from the factory with the same gap.

Looks the same as my OE glass, they don't sit flush with the A-pillar.

Had mine replaced as well, the "gap" is normal even on the original glass...

99% of windshields no longer have a gasket seal, they are installed using SIKA Fast II Glass Urethane, they only come with an appearance molding on top so this would not be the issue. The issue would be the way the glass was set into the opening with urethane hopefully with no gaps in the urethane when he set his bead & placement from top to bottom & side to side?

What you are seeing is NORMAL.....IF you want it to look more flush, get s tube of black RTV sealant and put a bead all the way around and using your finger or some smoothe tool, remove the excess and smoothe out the bead.

Gap is normal that glass has to expand and contract and the metal does too. Do not want the too together. I know they will not expand that much but the gap is normal for most modern cars

camaromaybe,

I agree with Dawn55430. If you feel like this may be an issue, a trip to the dealership will not hurt to get it checked out.

Please let us know what your decide to do!
