Rear speaker upgrade

Alright so the title explains what I'm deciding on whether or not to do. Here's what I know so far:

1. I will hate my car (and Chevy and GM) and say terrible things to it that I won't really mean for about 4 hours because of the back seat. I can live with that.
2. ********.com, get an adapter
3. Amps are optional, will probably skip that.

Here's what I don't know....

The stock (non-BA) speakers are what "way"? I keep seeing 2,3, and 4 way speakers.

What wattage speakers should I buy if I'm not buying an amp?

Is there any sort of compatibility issue I may not be aware of, including the above questions? Far as I can tell, I can just splice and replace?

For example, would these be more or less plug and play?

EDIT: If you had to choose, would you replace the rear speakers or the door speakers and possibly the tweeters?)

In general, without an external amp, I'd probably be looking to the spec for efficiency. db, sometimes expressed as dB at 1 watt, is the measurement, and the higher, the better. You don't really "blow" speakers because you overpower them, it happens more often when you try to drive them past the amplifier's capability and send them a "dirty" signal. You'll get a better overall sound, probably louder, with a most efficient speaker, so compare them. Over 90 db is getting there, but I'm sure there are better. Balance that with a known quality manufacturer and you'll come out far better than stock.

Anything more than a two way coaxial speaker is ridiculous. Most good coaxial speakers will have a decent tweeter and that'll do the job (especially for rear fill)

I personally would do the front speakers first because I like a good front soundstage.

Ok cool, is this one those "pretty much anything is better than stock sound," sort of thing?

Would I better off just upgrading the stock amp instead of any speakers?

EDIT: there is no amp in my car apparently...well at least I'm learning something, lol. Alright so I guess the question is now, should I get an amp? I was unaware my car didn't have one and I was cool with having a "stock" amp. All I would have to do is connect at the wires going to the rear speakers and then hook the other side up to the rear speakers right? Stereo======Amp=====Speakers?

I am not an expert, but I did upgrade my non BA system front speakers with Phoenix Gold Ti 65 component speakers. It sounded much better but needed rear fill. Added rear Ti 69's and it sounds great. I may not do any more upgrades because I really like the way its sounds, but I think an amp and sub would make the system completely awesome. Hope this helps.

Yes, you'd probably be better off installing a quality amp. Really depends on what you're looking for. Why are you wanting to replace the speakers? Because you don't like the volume, sound quality, or what? Also, what's your budget? That really helps in giving advice.

Well, I'm not looking into doing it right now. Just trying to see how feasible it is. My budget is probably $120. I like my sound quality ok, but there is a popping/crackling noise from the front speakers sometimes. It doesn't distort the sound it just literally adds small pop sounds in the middle of songs. Also, I heard a car with a Bose system and that sounded great. Obviously I'm not about to drop the hundreds and hundreds for Bose but I figure it's not hard to do better than stock. Though the stock speakers are pretty good.

replace the front speakers. I just installed Memphis M class 6x9 in the back, They drove me crazy, swaped to polk MM 691 they sound like giant tweeters. trying to get the back to sound right with out a proper front stage is a bad idea. I will say save up another 120 and get some good and I mean good front components. 250. bucks. I am sure there are some others for less. I was looking at polk MM 6501, JL c3's and like to have drove myself crazy finding a place to hear them. the polk are like 189.00 220 for the JLs I beleve there are some focal for around or less than these. not sure about them. I finally just bought some hertz hsk 165's after hearing them.

I dropped the idea of the speakers and decided I didn't need them but I stumbled on some money (literally) and am looking into the front speakers again. From what I gather, I should buy just component speakers for the doors, not coax or above?

Does the non-BA system have tweeter pods on top of the door panels? I have the BA system and I would only replace the fronts with separate components just like the original system has.

Yes, the non-BA system has the seperate tweeter pods like the BA system. The non-BA system has even been proven to have the exact same front speakers as the BA system.

Yes, I would go with some components. Most 6.5 and even a lot of 6.75 will work with the Camaro. Depending on what you want to spend, will dictate what you put into it

I had that popping cracking sound all so. I install some Infinity Kappa 6.5 components speakers and dynamatted the doors there no more popping and cracking now.

Did you get the infinity kappa tweeters to fit in the stock location? I saw them and they are HUGE!
