Setting up the USB Flashdrive
I was gonna set up a 8GB flashdrive with some different playlists and was wondering how you've set yours up. Did you use the iTunes software? Or drag and drop stuff thru windows explorer? I'd like to have about 5 different playlists.
I attempted to use my 32GB flashdrive, but it was still indexing after 15 minutes so I'm gonna use a smaller one. I hope it only needs to index if you take it out of the USB port.

It does some indexing every time you start it up, but it starts a song while doing so and usually doesn't take long with 4gigs of songs.
The 32gig should not have been indexing that long, maybe it can't handle data over a certain amount. If you use an ipod to control what song is playing, then you can sidestep this issue. But if you are going to use a flashdrive, then you don't use itunes to add songs, you just copy them over to the drive. I separate mine into a different folder for each artist that I have 5 or more songs of. Then I have a final folder where minor artists go. |

I tried something different in order to make it easy to transfer playlists that I already created in iTunes.
I had made mp3 playlists that could fit on a CD, since my SS Impala has a 6 disc cd changer and NOT a USB port input. You can fit 140-160 songs on a cd like this- quite a bit of music. I then created folders on the USB flashdrive for each of these "Playlist CD's". I then copied and pasted the mp3 files on the cd to the folder on the flashdrive. The songs stayed in the same order as they were on the burned cd. And now I have my playlists on the flashdrive the way I wanted them. I've actually found the head unit to work quite well. The only problem I had was indexing a 32 GB flashdrive that had almost 30GB of music on it. It was still less than 10,000 songs (About 6,000), but I couldn't hang around all day to see if it was ever going to stop indexing. Right now I'm using 8GB flashdrive with mp3 files. It's still quite a bit of music.

Right now I have about 4 GB of music on the 8GB flashdrive. Doesn't take long at all. If you leave the flash drive in the USB port, it only indexes once.

My solution was to load my 8GB flash drive like others did in folders since the head unit can read folders there. I downloaded the below portable app and then install it on my flash drive. You can create playlists right on the flash and rearrange your music as you see fit. Still playing around with it, but seems to work fine. Initial indexing for me took less than 10 minutes. Also, I used an extensioncable to attach my flash so as not to damage the flash
