Sound of stock exhaust with long tubes?

Just curious how loud the zl1 is cruising around, normal driving etc...with off road pipes that is. Idc about wot but I just don't want it obnoxiously loud inside the rest of the time. Anybody have a clip?

Headers do not make much low freq sound with mufflers, I would think the sound inside will not be much different.

I just figured with the dual mode exhaust it wouldn't be too loud which is what I'm hoping for anyway

Very tame sounding when you are not hard on the throttle. Go under a bridge and go WOT and you will be amazed!

Love mine!

Even though this isn't my daily driver I just don't want it as loud as my 05 gto was w/402 stroker and longtubes running through then stock cat back. Got to me after a while.

Pure heaven! . . . with the dual mode exhaust it is loud when you want it to be and nice and calm when you are cruising.

Nemisis,

I have long tubes and cat delete with factory exhaust. The idle is stupid loud IMHO. My wife says the dishes in the cupboard rattle when I fire up. Now, if the exhaust flap programming was closed at start, and from idle 1,000 rpm, it would be tolerable. The sound quality form 1,000 to 3,000 when the flap is closed is quite a nice performance sound IMHO. I "have" to find a solution for 0 to 1,000 flap control, otherwise ill be welding in some Ultraflo Bullets were the cats used to be.

Why not just race cats? Quiets the idle, and the smell. I ran no cats for about one week, then washed all my clothes and put cats on. I couldn't take the exhaust smell with no cats.

the solution is to just force the flaps closed be way cheaper and easier than welding in bullets.

Yeah, that was my other concern was the smell. Hmmm...ill need to figure something out because I absolutely hated that odor when I had longtubes on my gto and no cats.

my .02 is run cats. the price sucks but the fuel smell and sound management might be worth it.

when the flaps open you are trying to mimic an open style exhaust.

open exhaust with no cats has always be more volume than I want on a street driven car.

the best deals right now are texas speed headers or JBA midpies with race cats.

Russell,

You got me having a change of heart. I've been enduring the "stinky clothes" long enough. And you're spot on about the race cats dimming the noise. Thanks for the clarity!
