EFI Live

I'm not sure if any of you use EFI live to tune your vehicles but I was wondering if someone knew if GM has changed the PCM on the new camaro, so that it will be able to keep track of what programs have been loaded??? They did this on the new duramaxes so they can tell if your have installed a tuner from the last 10 different programs installed on the computer or something like that.

Does GM now incorporate this recall of pcm tunes on all their vehicles now? I'm wondering when i start using the EFI live if it will void the warranty.

I know ECS tunes with EFILive. Give them a call.

It is highly possible that tunes may cause warranty problems. It is important that you work with a dealer who has no problem with performance-enhanced cars. Also remember that a modified part only violates the warranty if it causes another part to break. A tune can be blamed for a lot of different things, so be careful.

I have EFILive and that is what I've heard also. I would think that GM has done that on the Camaro too. I don't believe it recalls the tunes, just the # of times and dates it has been flashed.

I understand GM's new diagnostic setup can read it and check to see if it matches their records. If different, warranty probably will be voided on powertrain. I don't know about the TCM (auto transmission), but probably the same also. Maybe some dealer service tech's might know. I know my dealer's don't.

I am waiting a while to see if there any early problems with the powertrain before I tune mine. I have already downloaded the files in the ECM and TCM of my Camaro. I can tell that a tune will really wake up the L99 cars and make them much more fun to drive.

We haven't seen any issues around here as long as we flash it back to stock before the car goes into the dealer, we use HPTuners. They apparently look at the current tune in the PCM/TCM and send it into GM when they need to warranty certain things.

My understanding was that they would be able to see the #'s of flashes to the PCM, which if its more than 0, and they don't have any GM record of performing them, I'd say your in trouble. I think purchasing a spare PCM that has the same VIN loaded would be a wise idea for those who aren't getting too crazy with the mods. Its should be fairly easy to swap PCM's (was on my TBSS). So essentially you have your stocker for visits to the dealer and your modified for daily/race use. Now, I certainly am not supporting dealer fraud if you do crazy stuff to your ride, then try to get the dealer to cover it, but at the same time, if they try to void your powertrain warranty over a CAI, exhaust and tune (done by a reputable shop)...that's BS. This might protect you guys who aren't doing alot of modding.

True...
New PCM is probably like 400-600 bucks I would imagine.

Couldn't you fight it if GM voids your warranty from seeing "un-documented" PCM flashes? Because if i take my car to a mechanic (that isn't a GM dealer) to get worked on, and they flash it with updates it wouldn't be documented. Now if the PCM is flashed 10 times a day for a week straight and they see that, then i could understand it.

I think i might play it safe and get a second PCM for the car like recommended.

Wouldnt it be better to use youre ECM for tunes instead of the stock one though?? At least I think thats how I could do it, have the tune sent in the ECM from ADM then leave the stock one for when I need to get warranty work done on the car.

A few quick questions.

1.) The shop for my 04 cobra had a few different tunning methods. One was using the predator tuner (they had backend software so they would tune it and then use the predator as the tool to load the tune into the car). Since I owned a predator myself, I could upload tunes to the car as well as revert back to stock. Do you offer anything like this?

2.) Once you tune a car, what happens if you take it to the dealer and there is a code upgrade? Do we need to bring the car back to you for a re-tune?

Thanks,
Crowley
