First time using launch control.....BAD A$$!!!!!

Found a nice empty road in an industrial area today and tought, what a perfect road to carpet the accelerator and dump the clutch!! Haha

Mode 4 enabled, quickly put the pedal on the floor, reved up to about 4-5k rpm and quickly back down to about 3500, let clutch go a little faster than normal ( didn't side step it) and held on.

Spun the tires more than I though but really put the power to the ground well. Didn't feel like TC was holding it back like it does in normal TC mode.

With my foot the floor I grabbed second and the car stayed straight (although it felt like the back was skating all over the lane). Second really unleashed the power and it felt amazing.

Foot still on the ground, hit third, kept pulling like it would never stop! Lifted after 3rd as I was running out of road.

Conclusion: Genius!! Hard to believe I just launched a car with 600 HP (roto fab CAI is the only mod) at full throttle and the car came off he line like a bat out of hell. Amazing engineering. My buddy riding shot gun said "That was F'ing crazy....can we do it again?" Lol

One more thing....Trying to figure out how to describe it...i think the best way is:

Traction Control feels like the computer is holding the car back and Launch Control feels like its helping to push the car forward.

When you say "with your foot to the floor, and you grabbed second", are you saying that you did the "no lift" shifting? I've read that's one of the ZL1s top features, but I haven't found the right stretch of road to try it out, yet. If that's what you did, how high did it rev up to when you pushed down on the clutch while still keeping the pedal to the floor. And second, when you released the clutch at whatever rpm it was up to, did you spin the tires, for how long, or did the traction control do its job just like when you use launch control? Wow, that must of been some serious fun! Must of gotten the heart rate up. Sounds like my kinda natural high. GM has a video on you tube showing a pro driver going for it, one with launch control and the other without. Big difference, using launch control is much faster, way more grip, without it it's all wheel spin and little traction.

Yes I did the no lift shifts. The first time I hit the rev limiter in first before I got second. The second time I hit them perfect. The revs seemed to stay right where they were at I didn't feel the rev limiter at all. Seems like the revs were held as described by GM.

As for spinning the tires that was the interesting thing. It felt like the tires were spinning all the way through second gear BUT unlike traction control that seems to take away power and hold you back, this felt like the computer was working to keep you straight and push you forward. It was a controlled spin and never felt like TC was trying to stop it.

All very cool. Can't wait to do it again. Hahah

I can't waite to try this when the ZL1 comes out of hibernation. In the mean time... i'm installing the Roto-Fab CAI also. I bet the sound of the wine from the Supercharger was awesome as well..
Thanks for sharing

sorry Kona - I have a vert and it DOES have LC. It just does not have a mode change option (1-5). The LC does work however.

You are going to love it. Felt a difference (saw dyno numbers posted +25HP) but the sound is the best. I think I can hear the supercharger more than the exhaust now from the inside of the car. I wonder what it sounds like to a bystander.

How do you activate it? I tried entering it by fully turning off traction, but when I mash the throttle, it goes all the way to the redline instead of finding the proper rev.

Press the button 2 times quickly, then slam the loud pedal to the floor (with the clutch pushed in of course).

If you just push the loud pedal, it'll go right to the rev limiter. You need to slam that pedal down, and it'll hold the rev's around 4,000 or so tilll to let go of the clutch.

So when you shifted to second gear, third gear you did not engage the clutch? Can you be in other modes for the launch control?
