Purpose of the . .

What is the purpose of the wind diffuser (i think that's what it's called) underneath the front bumper? I recently replaced my front bumper and didnt put it back on, should I?? Thanks!

Maybe it is for the cool airflow needed by the radiator? I asked the same thing when I was installing the hide-away front license plate. Only half of the bottom grille is open, but it must have some effect...then again, the mailslot's only purpose is to let us all know it is an SS.

Its ideally to direct air flow. It is more relavent on the zl1. Not really required unless going extremely fast over 100+

sent from my galaxy s3. that would explain the errors.

That's funny. I think it's actually for a more refined look ?

Didn't put mine back on when I replaced with ZL1 front fascia though.

It cost 50 some dollars so I left it off as well. Just making sure it wasn't too important. Thanks fellas!

I believe the purpose of the front air dam is mainly to direct air toward the radiator for cooling. GM has been using this design on most of their passenger cars for years. I've always felt that it looks unrefined, as I generally don't see it on other manufacturers' vehicles.

Diffuser , to divert the air flow from under the car , therefore creating a low pressure under the car which helps to keep the car [ glued ] to the pavement .
I think

I wouldn't be too quick to discount it...It takes a beating from driving...lol..but I think it's worth maintaining...might diffuse air so the flow through the radiator and engine compartment flows better, perhaps even as a stiffener for the flimsy plastic it's attached to...And if nothing else, it acts like a curb feeler for the front end...lol

Depends on the car as it can have several functions. Some are for directing airflow to things such as power steering pump coolers or the radiator. It's also on there to offer some protection against road debris passing under and hitting the underside of the engine such as oil pan. It's made to break away so it can protect somewhat and yet not destroy the front bumper.

The Camaro has used it as a radiator air dam. see below for 3rd & 4th gen

http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/pr...r-Air-Dam.html

http://www.rickscamaros.com/camaro-l...1993-2002.html

However for the 5th gen it is called an Air Deflector and not a radiator air dam so it may serve no cooling function on the 5th gen. However they do cause a high pressure air buildup in front of them and cause a low pressure buildup behind them. This very well may aid in directing the airflow for the radiator due to the low pressure buildup behind it.

Took mine off when I installed my lip. Haven't noticed any adverse affects.

I hit something in the road and tore it off. I've run my best track times without it so I'm not too worried about it lol.
