Moving to CT Need Emissions Advice
I will be moving to CT in March. I won't need tags for about a year but I will be getting CT tags eventually. I have longtubes with no cats, will this be a problem for the vehicle inspection? Are there any shops that will overlook this? At the moment I don't have a tune, so my CEL is on and I don't know if I will have one by the time I need tags again. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The cel will be a problem. In CT they plug in to your OBD2 and check for readiness codes. If they actually visually inspect the car I'd be suprised. There are places that will overlook that. You may not need emissions if you are just transferring the reg from out of state. I'm not sure. Maybe you've checked into that. If the visual part is a problem just get a hold of me when you're ready to go, I'll take care of it.

At least Ted will be nearby if you need to get a tune done.

First off, CT Camaro5 members welcome you to our fine state. Unfortunately, my friend, I don't have good news. See the above link, no cat is probably going to be a no test. All shops have remote cameras now and the stations don't know if they are being watched or not, so you are going to be hard pressed to find one let you slide and risk loosing their testing cert. Super is correct, any CEL is going to also result in a failure until you resolve it and you cannot just clear the code, because if they don't see that all tests have been run, you will be told to leave and return when the car has performed all its onboard tests. Sorry to break the bad news but if been down this road and it ain't pretty in CT.

Good ol CT they might have some great C5 members but the state itself is a crapshit for anything automotive. Make sure you take your radar detector out of your car when you come up to... I've mad that mistake and their state troopers are assholes about it.

I am lucky to be in the military in the fact that most states do not charge us property tax to have our vehicles registered there. I have been stationed in GA for most of the last eight years and kind of got used to only paying $20 a year per car. CT is one of those states that treats military well by doing this. So originally, I wasn't expecting to have to budget for taxes, but it looks like I'll have to plan for that now.

I don't know what part of Connecticut you guys live in but my wife and myself haven't had any of our cars in emissions in quite a while, she has a 2010 Venza I have a 2001 Honda accord coupe V6 it hasn't been in emissions for over 2 years and my 2011 Camaro vert doesn't even qualify yet.
But of course the supplimental tax has been paid already. Welcome to the tax me State. And wait till you fill up at one of our gas stations here in the good old State of Connecticut. That will get your blood boiling! Gio |
