Have to visit the dealer tomorrow I now have a leak from the rear end!

Took the ZL1 out today to finally drive it with the intention of making sure the brakes and rotors and tires were operating okay through my local mountain roads. This was my going to be my loop to break the car in properly. I started out about 37 miles from the magical 1500 mile break in mark. I really never drove the car too hard because of the twisty roads. If anything the brakes and tires got the brunt of the break in drive. I got home with the mileage at 1498 and noticed in the garage a familiar smell of gear oil on exhaust. I will take it to the dealer in the morning. The puddle isn't too large, about a 2" in diameter. Possibly a bad seal? I wish I had a lift to raise the car and see for myself. Strange that the car would do that but better to discover early.

3 options most likley

1. pinion seal (not hard but time consuming usualy have to reset the pinion preload)
2. cover gasket (very easy)
3. drain or fill plug leaking (very easy)

should just pick up a floor jack and jack stands. costco had these low profile ones with ruber pad for like $89 I used this on on my Z06 and now ZL1 just becasue of the ride height.

it is basically this jack at costco price.

It was the axle seal, none in stock of course so they ordered from GM parts and it will be done tomorrow.

My first time using them. They were ribbing me for buying the ZL1 at another dealer. They sold Golden 722 who is on here the convertible they had. That's all they had as far as black ZL1's and the other dealer had what I wanted on the showroom floor. Dealers are weird sometimes!

It's not going good at all Brandon! The dealer stated they cannot locate the part in stock locally. It's the inner axle seal and has to be ordered from Michigan and will hopefully get it Monday. So I have a new car with 1502 miles on it sitting in the dealership over the weekend now.

So you're saying I'm whining? I probabaly am but I am just expressing the frustration that parts are not in stock as they should be. I'm spoiled as I was a Firefighter /Paramedic for 29 years and could not tell people sorry I know you dialed 911 and now are dependent on me but the medication needed to save to your Mom or Dad or sister or brother or heaven forbid your child has to be ordered because we are saving money on inventory! The analogy is instead of GM offering me a rent a car and eating the bill until the part arrives , if the part was available we would be done already. If you were in my situation you would be upset also don't try to pretend you wouldn't react negatively. Were you trying to be a smart ass.

My point is, it's not always possible to have every part in stock everywhere as much as we would like it to happen.

Having to order a part fom another place isn't unusual at all, especially with ZL1 parts. Heck there are some people that have been waiting for months to get ZL1 wheels. Sometimes they just can't make enough parts fast enough to satisfy both production as well as inventory stock.

Having to wait a day or three for a part isn't unusual at all.

And yes, I've had to wait for parts for more than one of my cars at one time or another.

We apologize for the frustrations. I can set up a case with GM customer service, if you would like. I just need your first and last name, address, phone number, VIN, mileage, and the dealership where it is currently at.
