I wouldn't be surprised if 2014 gets LT1

Think about it............

The 4th gen V8 went from the LT1 to the LS1 when it got it's refresh in 1998. The LS1 also went into the "new" C5 Corvette one year prior in '97. The C7 Corvette is getting the "new" LT1, so what better time to use it in the Camaro than in conjunction with the refresh.

The "new" LT1 is more efficient & powerful than the LS3 and they've managed to work out the issues with VVT and cylinder deactivation so that it'll work with auto transmissions, so it could replace the L99 in the auto cars as well.

Doesn't make much financial sense to build and support 3 different "base" V8 engines (I'm leaving the LSA and possible LS7 out of the mix) when they could do the same job with only one.

Mkes sense to me

I think you're confused there, they put the L99 WITH Cylinder Deactivation and VVT in the AUTOMATIC CAMARO... Your post should have said Manual where you said Auto. Plus it was put in the Auto to save the Auto from the Gas Guzzler Tax... The same reason the LS3 (MANUALS) have Skip Shift...

No, not confused, I know the L99 has VVT & cylinder deactivation and is in the auto cars. I also know about the mileage concerns. I simply mistakenly typed "auto" instead of "manual".....It's late and I'm tired.

I said this same thing a while back. Remember the LS3 was in the Camaro only a year after it was in the Vette. Having it in the refreshed Camaro makes sense. Plus with more power with the LT1 they could expect higher sales than with the LS3.

I would assume at this point we should look at what the ats or cts are getting for 2014 to truly see where the camaro will be. It would make more sense for the camaro to use a pumped up ls3 for another year then bring in the LT1 for the new gen with similar horse power but a lot less weight, it would show a lot people that weight matters as much as power.

We will officially know next week.

I wouldn't count it out just yet. Al was asked if the 5th gen would get a 5th gen small block, and he just smirked and said "anything's possible".

I'd like to think GM will not do it, but "Performance enhanced" 2014 Camaro would tell me otherwise & considering the Vette & Camaro market are vastly different, putting the LT1 into the 2014 Camaro would be a HUGE selling point & attraction to put the Mustang well behind in performance & sales again. Then when the Gen 6 Camaro rolls around GM will have an enhanced LT1 engine dubbed LT2 engine ready to go to kill the excitement of the next gen Mustang.

I think if we get the LT1 for 2014 or an LS7, that's a win either way

If they aren't using it in the new Chevy SS I would assume that they won't use it for next year's Camaro either, but any things possible.
