Calipers off for a trip to Mike,,,, pads are in hand, what to do?
Removed my calipers today which was very easy once I figured out how to get the wheels off,,,,,,,who sells you a car and gives you no way of getting the wheels off the deck,,,,,jeez. Any way scissor jack and block of wood and all is good. What to do with my pads while the calipers are away? Hate the dust but like the stopping power,,, have we on this forum found any middle ground with our ZL1 dust problem, any pads out there that will give me less dust without reducing the stopping power?

I know that some will say that the Hawk Ceramics reduce stopping power, but the reduction in dust was totally worth it. The only stopping loss I noticed was the initial bite from the OEM, but they will still haul the car down quickly.

You installed the ceramics and have no issues? Also, did it make a noticeable difference in dust? Can you send me the PN of the pads you got? Thanks Deke.

I've installed the hawk ceramics and haven't noticed any difference in stopping power from OEM.
I HAVE noticed a lot less dust though!

ZL1
Rear: Hawk Performance HB194Z.570 Performance Ceramic Brake Pad Front: Hawk Performance HB649Z.605 Performance Ceramic Brake Pad Shop around; I found one cheaper on Ebay and the other on Amazon. Haddem on my 10 SS and appreciated the reduced dust. Not installed yet, but I do expect similar results for my Zed. |

I've had the Hawk ceramics on for over 13,000 miles now and have had no problems what so ever. Rotors still look like new. The dust is significantly less. I think I was the first one on here to do the swap on a ZL1. All driving has been "street driving". I did not notice any difference in stopping power after I did the swap.

You have to buy the ceramic pads for the dust situation alone! I was sick and tired of cleanning the wheels after every drive. You won't be disappointed, trust all the forum members!

I got mine from Maryland Speed when they were running a sale a few months back. Same PN's that Ricamaro posted above. I want to say I paid around $250 shipped for them. I haven't tracked mine with then, but I am only the occasional drag racer so I don't foresee any issues. The dust reduction is completely worth the price! I would suggest sending a PM to a few vendors to see who will give you the best deal. I know GMPartshouse will match any price too.

Anybody have any idea how hard the Hawk ceramics will be on the rotors? Will they wear the same as if the stock pads were still installed? Or will the eat the rotors up pretty quickly.
I would love to lose the dust, I cant drive to the mailbox and back without having to detail my wheels again But I don't want to be buying rotors every few thousand miles either. |

I had mine on for 10k miles then sold the car. I never noticed much difference (if any at all) in stopping power or wear on the rotors, but I did notice a marked decrease in dust.
My '10 was a DD. Others with more mileage will chime in soon, I suppose. If rotor wear is a big concern, you may want to investigate Cryo-treating. |

This question needs to be answered hopefully one of the members who track the car can chime in. I'm sick of the dust as well but am willing to buy more Adams green wheel cleaner if the rotors are ill affected. Im sure they are not cheap!!
