First Contact...My Shopping Trip Today

Well,

My local dealer finally got a Camaro in this week so My wife and I decided to go over and look at it and maybe order my SS today.

We get to the Dealer and there sat a beautiful red LT out front under their shade porch area. There were three salesmen hovering about it maybe due to the shade not sure, the heat index is well over 100 here today.

We thought the car looked really nice as we opened the doors and started looking inside. I could not find the window sticker so I started walking around the car and asked the salesman do you sell at MSRP or less or are you marking up or padding the price? The salesman replied no markups we sale at MSRP or maybe slightly under. So I start thinking to myself get the checkbook ready.

I get around to the front right side and there are the stickers, heck there were three on the car. The original factory sticker showed a base Lt with auto tranny and RS package and the final sticker was just under $28,000.

Their stickers brought the price up to $31,125 and they had MSRP typed in next to the price. I can't remember everything but there was a crummy fuel door decal priced at $395, paint sealant $399, Leather protectant $399 and so on. They had over $3,000 worth of BS stuff tacked on to the MSRP.

I finally asked the guy if they had a SS coming and he said they had a yelow one due next wekk with manual transmission and the MSRP was between $41,000 and $42,000 on the car.

My BS threshold had finally been reached and I turned to the guy and told him I just paid cash for a 2010 GT500 and paid a little over $45,000 for it and you guys really have your cars padded.

He told me that there were no markups on the car and that they could not sell a car without paint sealant or leather protectant.

My wife told me I was rude to the salesman...

Don't think I will shop anymore till maybe Fall or later, I just don't have time for that kind of BS and games.

When you have an experience like this you end up not caring whether GM goes completely out of business or not. Dealers really can hurt GM down the road now that they will have more of a monopoly and less competition.

PS: I forgot to add that he told me the car was "priced right" and that they had already sold it 4 times but the financing fell thru. I was paying cash.

Steve

Maybe you should have left the GT at home in the driveway. A 2SS/RS would have looked nice setting beside it!

I suppose you wear your Auburn University jersey to the "Swamp" and sit in the middle of a bunch of Gator fans too. Go Razorbacks!, but I wouldn't even attempt that.

Yeah, GM needs to do an overhaul on their dealers.

Have some MANDATORY ethics classes.

GM needs to do like Harley Davidson did.... Make it a lifestyle. When you buy a car/truck, you never go back to the dealer unless you are ready to get another car.....
Harley on the other hand.... When you buy the bike, you get a Family with it... every weekend you can go down to the dealer and see your new brothers and sisters... just hang out, more often than not, there will be free food and drink just for coming to hang out.

Make the dealerships part of the Chevy family..... not just a place with blood sucking salesment out to make a buck

Don't take this the wrong way, it's not a burn on you bud. But if you are paying 40K+ cash for vehicles the dealer probably knows there are others in your area in similar financial situations and will just let you walk...

Also, don't deal with the sales guys outside, ask to speak to the sales GM and sit down and do a workbench order with him, you can choose all the options that you want and delete the bull that they tacked on to the car you looked at out front...

What a load of crap that is!

That's ridiculous by the dealership. I have a feeling this is going to happen a lot with all the dealership cuts. Not starting a political argument here, but you have to think that someone somewhere didn't that through. Anyways, I wish all the bad dealerships would stop giving good dealerships, like my dad's, a bad name.

Thanks for the reply,

I am looking for a rally yellow 2SS with RS manual transmission, may have to go with auto, wife has a bad knee and now has trouble with a clutch.I think the MSRP should be somewhere around $38,000. I think I am going to wait untill Fall when the hype dies down and see if I can get one for $1,000 over invoice.

Thanks for your offer,
