New Camaro Care

Hi guys,
I just bought a new Camaro over the weekend. I'm insanely excited and I'm just looking for some basic tips for caring for the car properly. I've looked through the forums and I've also got a couple questions. I've seen forums on detailing, but I'm looking for advice on daily/weekly care.

My first question is basically for confirmation that I've got this down. It seems most suggest washing once every week and detailing twice a year (once in the spring and once in the fall). I'm not completely clear on waxing, what is everyone's suggestion? Is the a regular waxing routine I should follow?

For washing, are chamois okay for drying? It seems as though to avoid surface scratches I should avoid microfiber cloths other than blotting off excess water, but I haven't seen much about chamois. I've also read about the Master Blaster, which will be a future purchase of mine.

My next question is about how to protect your car from rain? Is a regular waxing regiment (if suggested), along with a weekly washing suitable? I've been recommended Aerospace Protectant from a friend, or is there another sealant that is suggested. Should I wash my car after driving through a rain storm, and if so how soon after?

Next, the interior. What is everyone's suggestion for the leather, door panels, and dash? I've looked at Mother's leather products, but I know all leather is not created equal.

And finally, does anyone have suggestions for small marks or rock chips? I know they are inevitable (I've already noticed one, ), but is there anything that removes, or protects the car against such a thing?

Thanks to everyone in advance for reading through this post. I am completely new to this, but I absolutely LOVE this car and want to make sure I care for it correctly. I'm four days into ownership and I'm already noticing dust every time I step out of the car and it's driving me insane! I really appreciate everyone's help.

No matter what you do, I and many others would recommend the 2 bucket system with your car washes.

Welcome and congrats on the new car!

1) Waxing frequency will depend on lots of things and could vary greatly. You can expect at least 3-4 weeks unless your car is subjected to horrible conditions and upwards of 4-6 months in great conditions with some of the better sealants and some durable waxes. The best answer is when your paint no longer beads or sheets water, then it's time to wax.
2) Get yourself a quality drying towel like the Cobra Supreme Guzzler and pair it with a Master blaster and you will never having drying troubles again.
3) Your right on with the rain regimen. I like the Blackfire line for sealants.
4) Lots of companies make decent interior stuff. Blackfire, Adams, Werkstat, Ultima
5) Clear bra will protect them before they happen, touch up paint after they happen. A lot of people like Dr Color Chip for touch up...

Also check this thread for more detail if you haven't already.

A chamois will scratch paint. Try the large Absorber from WalMart.

I would be very hesitant to try much of anything from Wal-Mart. They sell a couple of decent products, (some Megs, some Mothers, Stoners glass cleaner, etc) but they are well known brands. Microfiber is not something they do well in. The Cobra Guzzler is a great towel, and so are the Adam's Great White Drying towels. Be very careful about buying microfiber OTC. Picking the right towels online, and spending a little more for them up front will save you a lot of time, heartache and money down the road.
As for your smaller towels for buffing, removing wax, wiping off detail sprays, etc...I have had great experiences with the Adam's Single and Double soft towels, and absolutely love the Zaino Borderless Blondes. There are plenty of other great choices out there as well, but I don't have experience with them so I can't talk about them from personal experience...but there are plenty on here who can.

The Absorber is a soft water absorber made in Japan. I agree on staying away from the microfiber cloths sold at WalMart.
