ZL1 rotor swap

I had this done a few days ago swapping out my factory rotors for a set of Racing Brake rotors. Lighter discs and the brake pedal response feels a bit more progressive. I can modulate them better when stopping without activating the ABS as much. They are installed correctly the RB disc all have the slotted/ cross drilled holes facing forward but allow the curved vane on the inside of the disc is as designed to sweep rearward for proper cooling. They were granted a patent for it's design.

The Racing Brake 2 piece open slot rotors perform very well and help you shed a nice chunk of rotating unsprung mass. Plus they look cool!

Are the RBs lighter than the ZL1 front or is it the rears that are lighter or both?

The front and rear rotors are both lighter than stock. On the ZL1 the fronts are 2 lbs lighter each and the rears are 6 lbs lighter each. On the SS the fronts are 5.5 lbs lighter and rears are 6 lbs lighter.

Wow ... That's a lot of weight for just being rotors. Something definitely on my list of MOD's to do. Now my next question. What other brake rotor manufacture, besides Racing Brake, have such a weight saving rotor ?

It is indeed. None that I am aware of. To lose that kind of weight takes a 2 piece rotor and some good engineers.

None, and to be honest - no other brand of rotor even comes remotely close to the weight savings you get from Racing Brake.

It makes sense that the rears would be much lighter. The OE has an iron hat and the RB has an aluminum hat. Up front the only way to take weight out is to have less material in the ring as there won't be much difference in the weight of the hats.
