Pedders rear Sway Bar

just looking for some info from others that have it.

I received the rear sway bar, pictured below, as part of a package. The shop installing it says it doesn't fit, its to wide/long. Its wide enough to almost brush the wheels on each side. It measures about 53-54" from tip to tip.

The shop compared it to one of theirs and it was longer than theirs.

They were wondering if it was one for another car maybe.

I ordered the kit for 2012 SS vert. I'm wondering if they sent me one made for another Camaro, maybe older or V6 or something.

I will be contacting Pedders Monday, and this is in no way a trash thread, just wanting to see if I can identify what this is for exactly so I can tell them correctly what I have.

I'd say its on the money. I measured from where the drop link bolt comes thru the control arm and I got about 56". Couldn't get a measurement on the top cause its on the car already. Hope this helps.

That's the ZL1 sway bar for the FE4/FE5 suspension. Not sure what the 2012 Verts come with.

No, mines a 2010 coupe. I'm not sure what year they switched over from FE3 to FE4, but I think I read that some model years had them both. Might have been 2012??

You can easily tell what sway bar you should need by just checking under the rear of your car. If rear swaybar endlinks are oriented same as the front (meaning they go through the bar horizontally), then you have the FE3 suspension. If you have vertical endlinks (the nuts are on the top and bottom) then you have the FE4/FE5.

Good Luck.

Pull up the carpet in your trunk and on the left side of the floor is a tag with a bunch of codes on it. Look for FE3, FE4 or FE5. If you have FE3, you will need a new bar or new lower control arms to install the bar you have. If you have FE4 or FE5, you need a new shop that knows what there doing.

What type of wheels are you running? The 1st pre-order, ver 1, slightly scraped my CCW 20x11.5 on bumps. Had about 3/8" clearance at 1" drop. If you're running fender flush 20x11 or smaller, should fit.

The new versions is suppose to be slightly narrower.

NOTE:
Must use the outer arm mount, not the inside tab. If your OE bar is like a "U", you may not have the newer lower control arm. Check out this thread.

It shows the hole needed in the lower control arm for the the new ZL1 style swaybar.

That is a fe4 and up rear bar you will need new lower rear control arms and links to run that on a 2010 or 2011

interesting, I was not aware they had both in 2012, will have to look to see. Thx for the input.

This was the first full Pedders install I believe of bushings and everything for MTI racing, but they did an astounding job on everything, and they have been working on 5th Gen and corvette's for a long time.

I'm leaning more towards it being the incorrect bar for my specific car, be it not an FE4 as I thought all 2012's were or the bar for a vert is different than one for a coup, and I got the bar for one or the other.

I put it in as a 2012 SS FE4 Vert.

Pedders has stepped up to the bat on a few things right away, Im sure they will take care of me on this, just wanted to identify where the dialog needed to start on my end as this is the first suspension type mods Ive ever ordered, much less had installed on a vehicle.

By the way, its a completely different car handling with all the bushings, coilovers and front sway bar on it, handles crazy good. Not sure how much a difference getting the correct rear sway on will make but Im looking forward to it.

And I would highly recommend MTI Racing if your getting work done on your car, suspension or performance, in Atlanta GA or surrounds. They do go the extra mile and take the time to get it right and perfect before you get it back. And they keep you updated really well.

I'm pretty sure the verts, at least the 2012. Still are FE3 suspension.

I believe your correct ...at work havent looked yet, but looking at a GM site it has this in it
"FE4 Suspension
With a focus on refined handling, the FE4 package — exclusive to the Camaro SS coupe "

http://gmauthority.com/blog/2011/04/...vrolet-camaro/

Though going through the actual Chevy site archived pages, it says the Convertible has the FE4 suspention.

I guess Ill have to just pull up the carpet or jack the car to look at the sways to be sure

Yes that would be the FE3. The new sway you have may still be the correct one for FE4 and all you would need to do is change the RLCAs to the new style, if you don't have them already. I did the same thing on my '10 and everything fit great.

It also explains what the shop was saying, from looking at pictures the FE4 goes outside the struts, the FE3 inside. So the bar I have now would of been to long when compared to the one on the car now.
