Make an extension to the factory release that can be pulled when you fold the back seats down. Remove the factory pull handle, add some steel cable and reattach the pull handle. You can make it long enough so it hangs over the sub box.

Pop the engine hood, attach a battery charger to the battery connection posts and use the keyfob to open the trunk. In the manual apparently.

i assume you are missing the point, as this is not a dead battey issue.i think you guys are missing some important aspect, the trunk release is a electronic release, it WILL fail at sometime, just as power window motors quit-power door locks stop working, there are more people modding there trunks which will make using the backseat impassable..i believe this is where the real issue becomes trouble..i have a tv in my trunk lid and sub box along the backseat , as well as others have starting doing more of these builds. so i need to find a resolve...not sure i can find a way to run a cable behind tv, and down trunk hinges .around sub box and it still be able to work good with all those bends, we are gonna look at that route next week, also will be looking to remove the latch and look to see if we can fab a way to pop the latch by drilling thur trunk lid { behind bowtie area} and replacing the bowtie with some small industrial magnets which can hold in place , but be removable easily if needed

You can pull the lever in the trunk and it opens the trunk how is that electric? If that isn't manual then I don't know what is. The other posts pretty much nailed it.

Mike, have you thought about extending the cable as has been mentioned, but having it run inside of a housing? I think a bicycle brake cable and housing might work out for you. You can run that around some tight bends and still have smooth operation.

here is some pics, so maybe you have idea what i am saying..rear seat is powered by a actuator that when flipping button it folds down by itself..behind seat is a 3/4 inch custom built plexiglass sub box..car and trunk are so sealed that they could hold water and hardly leak..

there is not much room for a mechaical cable to run,the tv is pretty much flush with indie trunk deck, it would have to bend around tv and run thru passenger side with as little bends as possible...here is unfinished pic of the rear seat with moving actuator arm..

appreciate the input, and will let you guys know what turns up being the best option...for me to make a manual latch that works ..it will either be some sort of cable or drilling behind the bowtie emblem, may even make a keyed bowtie emblem and camo the key in the bowtie..with a little help from my painter..

What about a small actuator or cylinder that is attached to the manual release so you can operate it with a remote? Not sure if I am going to describe it right, but maybe mount it in a housing attached to the TV frame that is of the same material as the TV frame so it does not look to out of place?
How far from the trunk lid does the tv extend?

for that one in a billion time that happens, the latch it self fails, call a mechanic road side service to come out and pop it for you..........they have a thin little tool they push up in there and pops it........
Or since its not a dead battery, drive it to a dealer, Im sure they can pop it to. Last edited by Rhyder; 04-22-2013 at 12:51 AM. |
