when does the invoice come?

i was just curious if the invoice always comes in b4 the car? and is the invoice the same thing as bill of sale? my credit union told me that i can not get the loan check until i present them the bill of sales...i ask because my grandfather is co-signing for me and he has to fly down from florida to do so...he also has to be put on my account with my credit union and then apply and wait 2 days for the approval...soooooo he has to fly down, get on the account, wait for approval, and ten be there when they hand over the loan check aswell...i dont want to do this process while the car sits on the lot, so if the invoice always comes in first and its the same thing as the bill of sales...i can complete this lil process b4 the car arrives

thx in advance...

I've seen a few people mentioning that the invoice came before the car.

I doubt the credit union will give you a loan on a car that doesn't exist at the dealer yet. I don't think they will give you a loan without the actual sales agreement in hand from the dealership. I doubt the dealership will give you an actual sales agreement on a vehile that is not in their possession yet.

I understand what you're trying to do, but I doubt any of it will work until the car actually arrives at the dealer and you have a real sales agreement in hand. There is no reason you couldn't get pre-approved at the CU for the amount, then just stop in and sign the paperwork and pick up your check the same day the car arrives.

I seriously doubt a CU or bank would give you a loan by just walking in with a vin#.

So just walk in to the bank with nothing else but a vin# and walk out with 30K?? If that's the case, I'll have 60k by this afternoon......just go on spastic squirrel, grab some vin#'s and go get my money!

Once the dealer has the invoice, you can get your loan. I did. I went through GMAC financing. My car rolled off the line on 6/9, dealer had the invoice that same day. I did all my paper work on 6/12.

the reason i wanna do it b4 the car comes is cuz my grandfather is co-signing for me...and i have to add him to my account with my credit union and he has to be there for that...the approval takes 2 days and then i can come claim the check...and he has to be there for that too...soooooo if the invoice comes b4 the car i can let him know, he'll fly up from florida and only have to stay for 2-3 to handle business...i dont wanna hold him here longer then he needs/wants to by telling him to come 2-3 days b4 the car is supposed to come in and it comes a few days late...and also i dont wanna have the car sitting at the dealer for a week waiting for him to fly up if he cant come immediately and then wait on the loan process...im just trying to get this stuff done b4 the car actually comes...

Invoice

GM generates invoices electronically. 3800 is the usual trigger, though I've seen exceptions. You need a Buyers Order from you dealer with the VIN on it to take to your CU. Your dealer may choose wait to give you the VIN. Sometimes strange things happen. CU members with "bullets" beacon scores (700+ with good history) can apply for a loan and walk out with "up to" checks without a VIN or a Buyers Order. Your situation is a little different, so your CU is being more cautious.

BTW your grandfather is a stand up guy. You should buy him a nice dinner when you see him.

Here is a question for you, You get the Invoice then do the paperwork and ofcourse the car needs to be insured. What happens if your car is damaged in transit? Who is responsible for the car?

Once the invoice comes in, you should be able to get a bill of sale from your dealer. The bill of sale will have everything including tags, tax, title, any processing fees, etc. Once you have your bill of sale, you should be able to go to your bank and start the application approval process. Once approved, they will give you a check to take to the dealer to purchase the car. DO NOT give the dealer the check until the car arrives, it is inspected and to your satisfaction.

The shipping company's insurance will pay to have it repaired. Until the transportation company delivers the vehicle, it is responsible for the vehicle and the dealer can do nothing to interfere with the transportation of the vehicle. Its not his vehicle till its physically on his lot and then it still may not be his if the invoice is being held back by GM.

It is foolish to buy a car sight unseen. More that once a vehicle arrived different that what was ordered and if you already bought it, you bought it just like it is.
