I planted some grass seeds about 8 days ago and no signs of new grass.I went and raked the where the grass is dead and raked it. There must be about 2 inches of thatch. I wanting to see if dethatching or waht els I could do to get it half way decent.

Depending on the vegetation killer you used, some last up to a year. It kills everything.
Thatch, Aerate, Iron and Lime should help around here.

I raked the thatch in the area of the dead grass out and redid the grass seeds there to see if it will grow. If after 2 weeks grass starts to grow, After I get back from vacation. I see what it would cost to have it do or ask my neighbor about doing it.
